Just letting you know, on the front brakes. The clips on the pads were on the top of pads when removed, you placed them on the bottom of the new pads. For anyone who reads this, I recommend getting a torque wrench and breaker bar for removal. Torque specs for front caliper 14mm bolts is 25ft/lbs, and front rotor bracket is 79 ft/lbs for 17mm bolts. The bolt size to easily remove rotors without hammer is M8x1.25, they are at home depot. Proper cleaning goes a long way, spray rotors with brake cleaner AND wipe them off. Apply grease to backing of each pad at least to help w/ noise and vibration. Also don't let caliper fall..., would hate for a DIY repair to cause brake failure.

Hey question, for the front break pad replacement. Do I need to disengage the parking break ? Or can I just replace them without doing any break disengagement? thanks in advance

No the parking brakes are only on the rear wheels so no need to put it in brake service mode if you are just doing the fronts

It’s fine to only do the front or rear. But you should always do them in pairs… both fronts or both rears.

Manually pushed in piston and now saying malfunction and to see dealer. Did i break the caliper? Actuator or both?

Unhook your battery for about 10 minutes and see if that clears it. If not, that may require a trip to the dealer.

How do I know when to replace the brake pads or the rotors??
@ProjectDIY2 Жыл бұрын
You have to keep an eye on the pad thickness. Remove your wheels and check them. For the rotors, if you get a shake in the steering wheel when you apply the brakes then you probably need to replace your rotors.

That doesn’t sound right. If it wasn’t put in service mode then the parking brake would have been on and they wouldn’t have been able to get the rear pads off.

What is a solution for clunking sound coming from the front when the car goes over a hump or rough surfaces? All the suspension parts are good. I took the corolla to the dealership about 3 times they identified the sound but can’t say where it is coming from. Sound like a loose metal
