Next time when cutting out openings like that put your straight edge the other side of the line, that way if your blade wonders it wonders inside the line not outside.

Yes as mentioned in another comment the brick that was cut should’ve been toothed out , you shouldn’t have an unglazed or unfaced part of the brick exposed to the weather. In time the corners will spall plus the appearance doesn’t look the same. You could cover it with some UPVC trim but not really the right way to do it. The lower sections should’ve had some cavity closer as well.

Because you’ve got exposed brick with no glaze or face , that’s why it should be done that way.
@mikew33738 ай бұрын
Guild should be the other side of the cut line so you don't accidentally cut into the bricks which are staying in place ,screw it into the cement lines

I thought the idea of dust suppression was to protect EVERYONE from the dust, not just blow it away from the guy on the stilly?im fairly sure that’s why they don’t do this on construction sites and they use water instead…which actually STOPS all of the dust instead of just blowing it next door. 🤦🏻♂️

Cutting that brickwork straight down will look piss poor on the edges should have cut halves out and rebuilt them … you’d only have to look at the top half and see the difference 😖
@GMWindowsDoorsLtd8 ай бұрын
Disagree, the miss match mortar will look “piss poor” and stand out more, and you would notice this more more certainly when there upstairs nobody can even see the 5mm of the brick edge
@johngarthwaite40518 ай бұрын
@@GMWindowsDoorsLtd the point is given time the cut brick edges are prone to frost damage compared to the rest of the brick and will blow the brick face that’s why they have a hardened outer surface trust me I’m a bricklayer and seen brick shatter through this but hey-ho …. Just ask any worthwhile bricklayer they’ll say the same
@GMWindowsDoorsLtd8 ай бұрын
@@johngarthwaite4051 I believe you dont worry, window fitters cut the bricks generally speaking, if a customer ever wanted us to turn the bricks round and and have the miss match mortar and also wanted the additional expense of a bricklayer then we would do this no problem for them
@coppullcaveman6 ай бұрын
I'd be interested to see the finish on the cut bricks as well. I've just had larger french doors fit on a new extension (builder fitted agreed size smaller as "working alterations") and looks a right mess. They have trimmed it in uPVC D moulding and stands out even more. They kept avoiding the question what it would look like knowing they wouldn't be redoing the brick edges.
@johngarthwaite40516 ай бұрын
@@coppullcaveman yes I’m afraid they are cutting corners so it’s quicker and easier profit for them…. If they were professional about it they would of offered to replace the bricks it would of cost you a little more but will last where them brick edges are now prone to frost damage and might shatter or blow the edge with a cold winter they avoided because they didn’t want to employ a bricklayer, like I say if they’d of given you the option and were prepared to pay that bit extra you should of took it , but sounds like they didn’t offer because they wanted to move on to there next job to earn more money as fast as possible… very unprofessional, greed before satisfaction.
