but surely you would waste less if you square upto the wall as your wasting 20 cm off each side of the room, if you squared up. then you could cut one tile 5 times to creat 5 x 10 cm tiles for that edge only along one side.. you are clearly creating more waste!

You don't know if every wall is completely straight. Start from the middle and work to the edges. Cut each tile to that part of the wall. I can assure you you will have less wasted tiles at the end.

Admittedly, wide is a more accurate desciption however, according to Oxford dictionary it is technically not an incorrect use of the word. the diameter noun: diameter; plural noun: diameters 1.a straight line passing from side to side through the centre of a body or figure, especially a circle or sphere.
