I appreciate the detailed explanation. For a guy who has never done any of it, it's helpful for me because those are the details that keep me from starting.

I'm sorry about your loss of the shovel... may it rest in peace in shovel's heaven. On a second note, if you're worried about background sounds, I think you can script the audio offline and then merge it with the video (I have seen this in other channels though I don't know how it's done) however, it didn't bother me at all... keep the good work!

Yes! I did some voice over a little bit in this one actually. It is just a change I am not used to but I will be working on improving it since trying to wait for cars to pass is making it take 4 times as long to make the videos! 😔. Thank you for the advice and thanks for watching!

You thought we'd leave after the sonotube explanation?!?!?!? 😏 No, no, no. Well damn, the shovel broke. You were already digging holes, just put it in and bury it proper. 🤣 Thanks for sharing. 🛠

I can dig it! Really enjoy all your videos.
@hardkore3604 ай бұрын
@15:48, you actually dont want a flat end on the sonontube top, you want a domed shape to keep water from standing on the top and damaging the concrete, you can then set those anchor bases in place which allows you to shift the anchor point after it dries, easy peasy.

I watch too many of these for someone who doesnt have a deck or place to put one. Question, I have seen a few people dump the dry bags of concrete mix into the hole then add water, is this good or bad in your opinion?
@optimus_prime_____3 жыл бұрын
As long as you mix it thoroughly!!!
@whocares66983 жыл бұрын
Thanks
@boots78592 жыл бұрын
Thats what a lot of people do, and its rather dumb. Your mix needs an rather exact amount of water if you want to get the rated PSI. Mixing it in a hole is fine if you're putting up fence posts maybe, but a sure way to mess up anything actually needing support.

I would say you had way too much water in your mixes. But in the end they will all work perfectly for what you are doing. Thumbs Up. I hope you just re-handled that shovel. There are years of life left in it yet.

@cedergrenpeter6 ай бұрын
Nice video, and way too much water in your concrete mix. Concrete and water creates a chemical reaction and too much water weakens the final result.

It would it be a good idea to build some roof on that deck, being that you pull a permit for it already. That would have protected the entrance from the elements.

@@TheFixerHomeRepair Best get your measurements now for some oak or ash to replace the wood incase you have an accidental break. Might want to look into someone that refurbishes old tools also. Just an idea, or a thought since I know that a craftsman is only as good as his tools, and that is a very functional beauty.
@ryansheard8092 Жыл бұрын
Did you then pull out the tube after the concrete cured? If so, how?
@TheFixerHomeRepair Жыл бұрын
Nope. It stays in the ground. Just cut the cardboard off at the surface and peel it off.

@TheFixerHomeRepair Thanks! I've got 6 to set for a free standing deck so getting them all level is gonna be a trick. LOL...I think I'm gonna rent a transit. Is that the easiest method?

Yes, they make sure you have sufficient footings before you pour the concrete. I guess it is better than them telling you its no good after they are poured. That would not be fun!
@boots78592 жыл бұрын
Very watery mix. I'd much rather give the box store $50 to rent a post hole digger to dig for me if I had more than a couple. Heck, even a couple I'd pay that, 5 minutes per hole and you have yourself an hour or two, and if you don't need a permit, can get your tubes in there and get done that day.
