Thanks for the video, found it as I'm thinking about fitting some, or similar, or maybe even make my own as a home-made electronics project. What a load of mechanical waste of time garbage. You COMPLETELY skipped over how/where to wire the orange Marker (what is Marker?) wire into what please...? Everybody knows how to use a Philips screwdriver and double sided tape. What about detailing/explaining the electrical/wiring detail (other than the battery - again - simple), in more detail please? Merry Christmas.

Zoomer that's because on every car it will be different... turn your headlight switch one click the same lights that light up within your headlights are your marker lights. So use a test light to figure out which wire going to that bulb is the power wire and attach the orange wire to that one.

No, what you would want to do is to get an add a fuse and find a fuse inside the fuse box that is switch hot. Put the add a fuse into that same slot and then you now have an additional power lead that is fused. It could be called a fuse tap.

Your video is easy to follow & images very clear. This should solve my problem of needing to use headlights during the day, which dims my digital instrument lights into invisibility, thank you! I do have one critique however, you were very careful to not contact any metal when wrenching the positive battery connection. Some of us may be a bit clumsy & spark the wrench. Maybe you could add a caveat to remove the negative cable first, then loosen & attach the positive connection, preventing sparks flying, then finally reattaching the negative cable & negative controller wire.

Thanks for the vid. Sorry for my English, but where did the "T-Tap" (or something like that) orange cable go? Where should it be connected? 9:19 min. Thanks.
@TheDIYGuyDOTnet10 жыл бұрын
Your welcome. The "T-Tap" is a type of connector used to connect the orange wire to the wire that goes to the marker light / running lights. No cutting or soldiering required when you use one of those. If you click the link in the description it will take you to our website and if you scroll down and click "T-Tap Connector" you can see what I am taking about. Connecting that wire will dim the driving lights when your headlights are on.

Just been researching the Regulations around the use of these lights as an aftermarket accessory in Australia as my son has bought some for his vehicle. The following is a direct quote from Department of Transport ' The daytime running lamps shall be switched ON automatically when the vehicle's engine starts. The DRL shall switch OFF automatically when the front headlamps are switched ON' Any advice on whether this occurs using the method in the video would be appreciated as dimming doesn't mean switched off.

I bought a different branded version of the drl. It doesn't seem to have the control box as your Philips lights. It seems like a direct connection to the battery. I was wondering if they will also dim like your lights when headlights are switched on? Thanks
@TheDIYGuyDOTnet8 жыл бұрын
+Karthi Bala Iam not sure what brand you got but i would just test the light by hooking them to the battery to ensure they will turn and off by themselves and you don't need to wire them to a switch. If there is another wire other then the two that go to the battery then I would say that wire will control the dimming function if it doesn't have that extra wire then I would say they doesn't have the dimming capability.

Cee Bonnick Hello, So to make it easy you can do one of these things 1) not connect the orange wire to anything and the lights wont dim 2) If you click your headlight switch one click so that the running lights come on you will want to locate the lit bulb inside the headlight and then locate the power wire going to it and attach the orange wire to it.

I want the leds to activate when the OEM drl lights of my car turn on, but with the brightness always the same. How can i connect them, How to determine which wire is the OEM drl of the car?

You would want to buy drl lights that don't have the control box and take the power side and attach it to the power wire of the OEM drl light and then ground to the car or to the ground in the harness going to the light. You could use a test light and test each wire to figure out which one is your drl wire Or you could look up ( google ) a wiring diagram for your car.

@TheDIYGuyDOTnet10 жыл бұрын
These particular driving lights are always on. They will just dim when they see power on the orange wire. So if you wanted them to go completely off they will not. If you wanted them to dim when your headlights go on you would hook the orange wire to the running lights. If you wanted to use them as a fog light and only dim when you have your high beams on attach the orange wire to the high beam wire. If your sure your DRL 's on your vehicle go off you could wire the power wire from the box to your DRL and it will go off when they do And don't connect the orange wire.

You have the same kit? This kit is a Red, Black and an orange wire. The red n black go to the battery as you have done and the orange should go to the marker light or do not connect if you want them to stay bright all the time. Does it have the control box? These lights stay on for a little bit after the car is turned off. Gives you time to get into the house before they go off. They only way they stay on is if you have a battery charger/ tender on the car as it sees it charging and thinks the car is running.

hello.. I install my lights similar to your video and used the controller.. my problem is that the lights will go off sometimes while I'm driving or if I leave the car idling. what is the cause of this? please respond
@TheDIYGuyDOTnet8 жыл бұрын
+westbank876 Hello, Its the same model as I used? I would guess either the positive or negative wire going to the battery is not making a good connection. If those seem good maybe you got a bad controller with your lights. It could also be that your alternator is not putting out enough to tell the controller that the car is on. ( We have a video on how to test your alternator) These lights have been in use since 2012 and were moved onto this car in 2014. These lights still work just as good as the day they got them.

To figure out where you would need to connect it on your vehicle trun your key to the ON position and then turn your head light switch one click. You should see small lights light up within your headlights these are your marker lights. You can use a test light and hook the clip on the battery and test the wires that go to the bulb to figure out which wire has power. Do you have the exact same lights? If so the box inline controls when the lights turn off and on. They turn on when they see voltage from the alternator (changing the battery) and then turn off within a min or so after the car shuts off and it doesn't see any voltage. If yours doesn't have the inline control box then you will need to wire in a switch. If there LED lights there's really need to wire in a replay because there suck a low draw.
@titusmathew50367 жыл бұрын
TheDIYGuyDOTnet thank you for the reply. it doesn't have inline controls. is it possible additionally add one inline to this LED DRL?, it will make any issue if we add one?.
@TheDIYGuyDOTnet7 жыл бұрын
No problem, I am not sure if you can find/ buy the control box separate maybe you can. Like I said you can always wire in a switch inside the car so you can turn them off and on when you want. If you have factory DRL you could wire them into those so the aftermarket ones will turn on and off with the factory ones.

Where to.you tap the orange wire?marculay?where.Is.that?
@TheDIYGuyDOTnet6 жыл бұрын
On every car it will be different.. Turn your key to the "ON" position then turn your headlight switch 1 click. Those lights that turn on are the ones you will want to locate the power wire going to them and attach the orange wire to using the T-tap.

Cant see that 3m tape lasting..didnt see a fuse in the power line????
@TheDIYGuyDOTnet5 жыл бұрын
Still on the car today and haven't been touched.. Its all about prep and making sure the surface is clean. Yes there was a built in fuse holder. At the 5:44 mark you can see it on the red wire hanging right in front of the oil fill on the car.

What do i do if the battery is under the backseat?
@TheDIYGuyDOTnet5 жыл бұрын
Not sure what your trying to install them on but the cable from the battery runs up front to a distribution box or the main fuse you should be able to install it right there.

show on which wire to connect to the marker lamps
@TheDIYGuyDOTnet9 жыл бұрын
ерлан бибек The marker light is the smaller light inside the headlight, There in different places on each vehicle. If you turn your key to the "ON" position and then turn your headlight control ONE click those lights that turn on are your marker lights. Some people will not attach the orange wire as they want the lights to stay bright all the time.

What's a T tap?
@TheDIYGuyDOTnet6 жыл бұрын
It is an electrical connector. Its like a butt connector with a spot for another wire to attach. I think there is a link to one on our website.

Put a switch in so you can turn them off if your charging system quits. I've had that happen way more than having DRL lights make any difference in safety. Can't remember the last time that headlights, even on a cloudy day, would have made a difference except on motorcycles.
@TheDIYGuyDOTnet9 жыл бұрын
bottmar1 That's a good point. I didn't think about that but then again I always the common size sockets and wrenches in my cars so I could just unhook the wire from the battery.

I worked for a company where I had to have another guy drive my car to the next work location close to a hundred miles away and the alternator quit in my 1992 caprice but he was able to turn the headlights off (like the old days) and made the trip ok. I had to work until 9 P.M. so if I had to chase back for my car I would have gotten very little sleep that night. This happened on the famous 9 11 attack. He may not have attempted finding any of my tools if he couldn't just turn off the lights with a switch. In all I don't like features like DRLs that prove more problem causing than safety providing. None of my motorcycles are hard wired for lights as they are even more likely to have charging system failures. I never forget to turn them on anyway especially since the fine in Minnesota is over $125. They seem to be flexible towards good reasons to not have lights though. Have a great day.

you didnt show wiring the fuse..?
@TheDIYGuyDOTnet6 жыл бұрын
These have a build in fuse between where it connects to the battery and the control box so there's no need to wire one in as it is already there. You can see it at 5:44 the black thing closest to my hand.

Question ... If my car has day time running lights, would these dim of I turned them on ? Or do they only dim when you have your regular lights on ?
@TheDIYGuyDOTnet7 жыл бұрын
These lights will only dim if you hook the orange wire up to your marker lights and the marker lights go on. If you don't connect the orange wire like we didn't do in the video the lights will always be bright.
@MiguelRPD6 жыл бұрын
TheDIYGuyDOTnet so if I connect to the red ignition cable then these would stay on without the need for a relay?
@TheDIYGuyDOTnet6 жыл бұрын
If you have this exact set there is no need for a relay. It has a control box that is wired directly to the battery that will turn them on and off when it see the alternator charging the battery. The control box will also dim them if it see current on the orange wire.. So if the orange wire is hooked up to your marker lights and you turn the marker or headlights on they will dim. If you don't connect the orange wire they will go on and off as normal but won't ever dim.

How ddi you mean it's not legal in the UK? Many cars have these lights even older cars
@jeremycubs83313 жыл бұрын
The only issue in installing them too low is they can be submerged in the water over flood and the lights will not survive.

Where is the marker light?
@TheDIYGuyDOTnet4 жыл бұрын
The marker/ running lights are the smaller lights that come on when you turn the headlight switch one click. On this forester they are right above the high beam bulb. @ 9:40 you can see them turn on.

Very long and informative video. Why did you omitted the most important part of the wiring for the lights from the connection part from the light sides to the battery. The part with the Orange wireFor the stupid of us. In my humble opinion that s the most important part for the less mechanical and electrical minded soul out there. Cheers. Like me..

T tap marker light connection???????? Jump to the end why don't you...
@TheDIYGuyDOTnet6 жыл бұрын
I didn't show that because it is different on each car/truck.. If you turn your head light switch one click the lights that turn on are your marker lights. (Smaller ones within the headlights) You can use a test light and hook the clip to ground and test each wire to see which side or wire is the hot side. Then use the t-tap and connect it to the power side. You also don't need to connect it as we didn't on this forester so the lights stay bright all the time.

So there's no way to turn them off with the engine running? No good.
@TheDIYGuyDOTnet6 жыл бұрын
Correct, with this set there is no way to power them of while the engine is running unless you were to wire in a switch. They tried to make it an easy install without having to wire in a switch or a relay.

nice,. but its sucks like that,.. i would had put the orange wire to the head lights or fug lights better,. all on bright would had been better,.. anyhow cool
@TheDIYGuyDOTnet5 жыл бұрын
If you hooked the orange wire to the headlights or fog lights it would do the same in the video they would dim whenever there was power going to either the headlights or fog lights. Hooking it to the fog lights though would let them go bright when you go to high beam as the fog lights go out and wouldn't have power going to them. But you could do what we did on this car and leave the orange wire not attached to anything and they will stay bright all the time.
@balinthepp9973 жыл бұрын
Excuse me, but this was a real pain it the ass, when you connected the positive side of the DRL. Never touch the positive side of the battery, before taking down the negative! When reconnecting the battery, vice versa, first the positive and then negative. In short, it’s not the best idea to dig around the positive corner of a closed 12V electric circuit...

They look shit, to close to the center of the car. I don`t know about U.S. traffic laws but in the UK, they would be illegal in that position.
