I am getting a lot of questions about the blue wire and cig socket setup... One thing that is critical to check is that your cig socket only has power when the vehicle is on! Some newer vehicles like the Ford Ranger can supply power to cig sockets even after the vehicle is offf - in this case, the charger won't know to stop charging as it assumes the vehicle is still on! SO, check if your cig plug has power when the vehicle is on and doesn't have power when the vehicle is off and you're good to go! Cheers, Cahn

As kings keep updating and making their lineup better. I suggest re designing the battery box for a 2.0 version and adapt other ideas for extra Anderson points, 175amp Anderson point for the kings inverters and some new qc3.0 and qc4.0 outlets. Take some inspiration from battery boxes like the Hardkorr, kickass and itechworld go further box 🤙🏼

Another approach in the same vein: I used a Maxi battery box with 120Ah Lithium battery, attached the DCDC charger to the internal divider and attached the solar and 12V input Anderson plugs to the lid by taking the pins out of the plugs and running them through holes drilled in the lid. It needs a little cable management on the inside to get the lid to close properly but it's not difficult.

@@thefieryphoenix1 I've only used it on solar charging with a 200W blanket and the DCDC charger gets warm but not hot, probably because there's a bit of empty space around it. There's enough space to mount a small 12V fan and the box is far from airtight so it should allow decent airflow too.

Has kings thought about doing the 3 plug Anderson’s similar to the kickass dcdc so it’s easier for your average punter to connect up the remote wire. Atleast the 3 plug is always backwards compatible with the regular 2 plug

Terminate it or cut and tape. You do not need the black wire, as the only requirement is the red for 12v switched +ve.

@@markwatson8886 hey mate. I worked it out. Needs to be connected to the positive end of the cig plug (which is the middle pin of the plug). The negative can just be terminated, cause there’s already one connected to the battery box from the battery. Let me know if I can help more.

Hi there, Thank you for the comment, this shouldn't drain the starter battery while the vehicle isn't running as it piggybacks off of the ignition so that it's only taking power from the vehicle while the alternator is generating input. Regards, Andrew

I have an Anderson outlet in the tub of my ute which is already switched off via the ignition (fused and isolated, roughly the equivalent of your 50A wiring kit but not always live). I only run a fridge from this outlet but am thinking I'd like to have the fridge run off an auxiliary battery when the car is off and don't want to go full dual battery installation. Can I simply connect the ignition wire and starter battery wire together and run to the 12V of this outlet. DCDC converter should get 12V from starter battery while ignition is on but not sure if this impacts on the smart alternator (which apparently I do have). Plan is to take the battery box out of the car when the fridge is not required day to day so will also need another maintenance charging option for the auxiliary battery while out of the car. Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Hey guys, I have a question: I have a smart alternator and 12v Cig socket in the tub. Problem is, the 12v Cig socket is always on, as in, its not switched on when the ignition is on. It must draw straight from the starter battery and is always live. My theory is that the dcdc charger will just continue to draw power from the starter battery. Is this true? Do you need the ingnition wire plugged into a 12v socket that is only live when the ignition is on? Or is it ok if the 12v socket is always live? Thanks!

Hi there, As the DCDC will isolate based on the ignition line, you would likely see it draw down on the main vehicle battery with a permanently active ignition line, sadly. Regards, Andrew

Hi there, I can confirm that they are compatible with batteries of that size, please do note that it is designed to have an Anderson to Ring Terminal cable set going to the starter battery rather than the Cig plugs in the vehicle so that you get a full power input from the alternator. I have this exact set up but one thing doesn't add up. Will the 50amp wire that connects my alternator to the the 25a Dcdc (via Anderson plug) be a fire hazard... Because 1-the 25amp dcdc can only take up to 25amp and my alternator battery (800cc) will produce more than 25amp easily? 2 the preattached WIRE that connects to the 25a dcdc to be connected via Anderson to the 50amp wire (that goes to my car battery) be a fire hazard as it's only rated to 25amp capacity???? Hi there, Thank you for the comment, I can address both of these for you with an analogy, The DCDC in this setup would act as outlet in a system, and in the same way as a tap in your water system will only allow a specific amount of throughput out of the system, any value above this point will simply just not be parsed, so you wont have any issues with the unit being damaged in this manner. One more question. Sometimes the camper doesn't get used taken away and used for extended periods of time, sporadically every few months. Is there a way I can turn everything off when not using the camper for peace of mind. Turning it off without having to remove the terminals of the 50amp wiring kit from the alternator battery?? Can I say just remove the same fuse from that 50a wire while leaving the terminals connected? AND turning off the axillary battery too when not in use? Will this be safe when not in use instead of having to literally disconnect everything. What would be the safest and most easiest and convenient way to isolate everything when I dnt use it regularly. My car already had a 12v Anderson’s plug at the rear of the car fitted when I bought it (‘22 ford ranger) that has been run through some sort of isolator. Could I use this cable to plug in as the starter batter input on the dcdc charger or does it need to go direct to the starting battery? Hi there, You can, but this is not ideal. Any time you add more connections and wires you're increasing resistance, so it'd be better off to run direct to battery. That being said, if you were not running heaps of power-hungry accessories through the control box it'd be ok! The fuse on the battery box quick connect plug is 30A, but the control box is rated to 50A total, so you couldn't power everything from the control box if you went that way. Regards, Courtney

Yes but will drain your battery when you turn the car off. The blue makes it only suck power when you drive.

Hi there, A short flash on the alternator/solar LED indicates a bulk or absorption charging stage and a long flash indicates float. The battery type LED should have a solid green light for both of these charging stages. Regards, Courtney

I guess it’s because the load rating of the cigarette socket is too low. Charging the battery may blow your car’s fuse. Or the charging speed will be very slow.

This is a great option to use while going off grid. Should hold up well to my 75l fridge and led lighting. My Pajero is fitted with a smart alternator. Do I just link the blue to cig plug positive and no further wiring? Or do I have to run the additional cables from the main starter battery and plug in aswell via the Anderson plug to charge the battery box? Great video, just gets a bit muddy with the blue cable section...

Hey kings, I run your battery box with agm through an isolator off my main starting battery into one input and have a panel feeding through the other input off a mppt regulator. Silly question how is this different and can I adapt your 25amp dcdc to my current set up in a similar format and also wire in my rear Anderson plug to keep a charge on my caravan batteries x2 115ah agm. Hi there, The DCDC charger will narrow these inputs down to one input as you can run your alternator and panel to your DCDC unit freeing up the other anderson connection. Cheers, Courtney
