Hi Travis, I'm impressed with your setup. This looks super professional and the end results of a lot of planning. My galvanized steel raised beds are already in place without built-in irrigation, but it's becoming a challenge now that droughts are getting more and more common over here in France. Even though I can't copy what you've done, you've given me some ideas on how I can put drip irrigation in place on my existing beds. Thank you!

I chewed up either a giant noble spinach or a boc chou today and it was as bitter as quinine. I pulled it all up and gave it to the chickens. There's no way we would like it. I'm heading to the co-op in the morning to buy mustard seeds because I know I can eat that with plenty of homemade pepper sauce on it. I direct sowed some more onion seeds today and if they come up and grow, great, if not I still have around 100 plants that look pretty good. I went ahead and trimmed the tops on them. I really like the raised bed setup and I'm envious your getting free composted wood chips. I'm getting another raised bed in a few days and scrambling to get something to fill it with.

Travis, I can tell you’ve put a lot of thought and hard work into this garden bed. It’s going to be absolutely amazing. When you do things publicly, no matter what it is, you open yourself up for ideas, critics, and downright ugliness sometimes. Our little community is generally positive for which I’m thankful. It’s easy to sit on the couch eating Cheetos and tell somebody all the things they should have done. Bahaha The layout looks very aesthetically pleasing and I’m enjoying following along.

All of my beds are at least 18" tall. They're a lot of work to set up, but easier on your back. Also, when you mow, you're not throwing weed seed in the garden. Drainage is better. They warm up a little earlier in the spring. Rabbits tend to stay out of them. And if you put down enough Mulch or weed fabric or even a neat pathway of some kind, it's purdy!
@LazyDogFarm2 жыл бұрын
Yeah we're gonna use red mulch in the pathways to hopefully give it all a little pop of color.

Thanks for keeping me educated during Ian. Seems he's dumping aaaaaalll the rain that we didn't get this spring and summer all in one day and night, thankfully, we're at the tail end of the worst of it and still have power. So, ironically, an irrigation video is just what I needed. I'll be going into my fourth season gardening on this property and I've been hand watering. All told I garden on about a half an acre. Half way through this summer, I made the commitment to myself to get the drip installed before spring... this summer was ROUGH! Thanks for making it easy to follow, off to drip depot I go....

Since I'm getting up there in age I recently invested in raised bed gardens to save my back. I know they are not as efficient as in ground bed but, you do have to make adjustments as we age. My sons eagle scout projects was to install raised bed gardens in the nursing home where I was working as the director of nursing years ago. The elderly people in that community really appreciated it and got a lot of joy from being able to work in the garden with their physical limitations. Wish I had thought about installing the drip irrigation.

Hi Travis. Thanks for all of your very informative videos! I have a question about the durability of the supply tubing. We are setting up a metal raised bed garden similar to yours. However, we will lay the supply lines on landscape fabric, covered by 2-4 inches of 1/2” gravel (rather than mulch). I am considering using 1/2” pvc pipe for the supply lines (with connectors for drip tape for the beds), because I’m concerned that walking on the gravel between the beds will crush or puncture the thinner black supply tubing. Do you think the extra cost for the pvc pipe is necessary? Or, would a heavier grade of flexible supply line be better (if available). Thanks for your thoughts!
@LazyDogFarm Жыл бұрын
The easy solution is to do like I did. Make a small trench for the tubing and then cover it with soil. Then put your landscape fabric and gravel on top of it. I'd try to say away from the PVC. That gets a little tricky converting PVC to mainline.
@herkdriver8192 Жыл бұрын

Well, given what they were saying on Monday, we decided to leave our Daughter at college, storm was supposed to come close to here, she if goes to school at Gulf Coast University in Ft Myers... she may never forgive me... it was horrible. We finally got her back home this morning at 3:30 am... after a 22 hour drive non-stop.... equally horrible. But she is in one piece, Gulf Coast University is closed for at least the next week if not longer... they told her to just go home if possible. It's a complete wreck down there... very sad, and similar to Andrew many years ago now. Glad to have her back home, obviously. I tire of this hurricane business. I am 60, and never had an issue with a tropical system until I was 45... but it seems like it's a constant these days, and likely to get worse based on what I believe is the real issue... 12,000 year cycle of the sun... suspicious observers, has some ideas on this if you are interested.
