[HOW TO] Install DRL Relocation Harness on a 2015-2020 Canyon (Plug-N-Play, Gen5DIY, Diode Dynamics)

This video shows how to install a DRL relocation harness on a 2019 GMC Canyon. This should be a similar if not identical process on 2015-2020 GMC Canyons and Colorado's. Visit Gen5DIY.com to find the harness that fits your vehicle. I also installed Diode Dynamics LED turn signals while I was at it.

2018 GMC Canyon SLT can the dust covers still be used ?

Yes. Doesn’t effect them at all.

Do any error codes show up or engine warning lights showing up? Also do the lights come on on your dash showing lights on ?

Everything functions like factory. No codes. No warning lights. It’s just now the DRL is on the LED strip instead of the low beam. Been fine like this for a few years now.

I added factory LED tail lights to my F150. I simply coded out the hyper flash using a free software called ForScan. Too bad there isn't something like that for GM vehicles. I hate resistors.

given all the crap we can do through the radio I think honestly they should just have an option to tell a vehicle via the menus that you put in LEDs. Especially given how readily available they are even at places like Autozone or Advance Auto.

Since I consider you a bit of an expert at mods for the GMC Canyon (and I also have a 2019 GMC Canyon Extended Cab SLE and installed the harness in this video), do you know if there is a way to change the color of the LED bars from white to amber to match the parking/turn light? Thanks a lot! Glad you enjoy my content. As far as I know there is not a way to change from the white LEDs to amber without totally replacing them. And that would involve opening up the headlights. I added this same harness to my 2018 Canyon. I had the Morimoto HID system with their relay harness on my 2015 Canyon, but this is a much better way to go for HID conversion. This is the way it should have been from the factory. Did you notice that the LED strips do not seem as bright as the OEM setup? Bill

I didn’t notice any dimming of the LED strips. They look the same to me. They’re just on al the time now instead of the low beam.

I have changed my tailights to LED and did this stop hyper flashing for them too with this kit?

You need to install resistors on your tailight wiring. That’s the only thing that will stop hyper flash.

Do you need a memory saver when you disconnect the battery like on some vehicles?

Nah. My radio settings never get erased. Disconnected the battery more times than I can count.

Great video, quick question do they engage the tail lights? I know when I turn on the parking lights the tail lights go on does this happen with the harness? Also are the LEDs brighter with the harness then parking light setting? Thanks!

No the tail lights do not come on. All this does is override the DRL signal from the low beam to the LEDs. As for the brightness of the LEDS I can’t really say. I never really checked.

Very nice video. I'm thinking about doing this to my 2018 Canyon Denali. I would assume with the LED strips on all the time their life expectancy would diminish. Any issues with them burning out?
