HOW TO INSTALL EVOTECH CRASH BOBBINS ON 2021 KTM 890R DUKE

Installation of the Evotech crash bobbins on my KTM 890R Duke.
My computer has died so using my wife's laptop which I am not familiar with, apologies for the less than perfect sound quality.
Cost approx £190 plus VAT
The downloadable Evotech Instruction sheet is for the 790 but is the same for the 890.
Install with watching the video should take you 45 minutes.
There is no need to use any thread lock as not mentioned to use by Evotech in the install
instructions, so I didn't.
Always check fixtures after a while to ensure still secure etc
Any comments, please make.
This install is what worked for me.
BE AWARE ……….
THE SMALL BLACK BUTTON SCREW FOR THE CABLE BRACKET, IF TORQUED TO 25Nm MAY ROUND THE HOLE, SO I SUGGEST DO IT UP SNUG ,BY FEEL ,TO AVOID ROUNDING THE SCREW LIKE I DID!!!!!!!!

They make special trim remover tools specifically to remove those plastic buttons 👍 They're available at most any autoparts store. Definitely worth picking up before starting this project.

This is by far the best EVOtech frame slider install video! Great work👏 Also thank you so much for the torque setting prompts. One question hopefully you’ll be able to help me with, concerning the crossbar support piece placement. You have it going through in front of the plastic radiator baffle, is that Evotech recommendation or did it just seem to fit better? I installed mine behind that baffle before seeing this video and was wondering if I should re-do it?😕

Hi . I just had to watch that part of the video again ! From memory Evotech didn’t stipulate either way . The bikes been thrashed in a caring manner since fitting and all is good . Nothing has got fouled with that crossbar support and lI think it was just a case of it sitting better that way to be honest . Nice stuff Evotech 👍

@@gsd32i Must say it’s not just this video but all your instructional vids are very well done. Thank you. I had noticed the baffle without the crossbar had the hot radiator exhaust air directed down and away from the top of the head. First when I temporarily installed it the same way you did, it seemed to kick that baffle back, not much but it would’ve dumped more hot air on the top of the head and already my bike seems to run kind of hot! I’m always so indecisive and don’t have much confidence in most anything I try to do mechanically. That’s why your videos have been so important and much appreciated. They’ve really helped out. Sorry for being long winded not trying to take up too much of your time. Again from a very thankful subscriber, thank you.

@@dukie1616 no problem . They do get a bit warm in temperatures over 16 degrees C! When I put my crossbar through it didn’t dislodge anything under the tank etc , pretty much a clean insert . My memory is a bit sketchy as it was several months ago . Ride safe . Go to run my new baby in next !

I don't know why you wouldn't install bolts directly into the OEM cable brackets. Maybe because they are plastic and they feel a metal bracket is required?

The engine bolt torque settings from EvoTech are different to the torque settings from Givi when using the same bolt hole. Givi say 48Nm and not 38Nm. I found a KTM document that said M10 egnine carrier bolts are 45Nm but I am not sure if that is an engine carrier bolt, so you might want to do your own research.

Hi. I have had a look at the Evotech instructions against my video and as they state max torque 38nm for the bolt that goes into the engine , I will leave it as that.Possibly bolt composition ? No issues to date. Thanks for taking the time to post comment. ride safe.

Do you know what the bobbins are made of, mine feel like they're made of metal . I checked with a magnet and they weren't magnetic but thet could be non-ferrous metal. Do you have any idea what Evotech uses for the bobbins?

Hi, they are made from a highly abrasive-resistant engineering polymer

@@gsd32i I wish mine were, I received an answer from the supplier who said they were made of aluminum. Weird eh. I wonder how they will react to a spill. I was thinking polymer would just kind of sand down, where aluminum would be unpredictable I would think?

Not sure if the bolt would just bend with contact, or what.

@@Paul-hn1wo The polymer I guess is designed to wear down and I suppose won't transfer the force to the frame, whereas metal may??? Are they genuine evo-tech or copies?🙈

I just did this yesterday and found the engine bolt torque kind of creepy seemed like I had to turn forever. Did you have any of this when you did this?

Hi, no I didn't have any issues, I did watch the video again just to see. Possibly the bracket wasn't seated properly, so when you put the bolt in, it wasn't catching the thread? hope you managed to get it done. The are good bits of kit.

How did you get the top motor mount bolt loosened, I seem to only accomplish rounding off the torx teeth
