I agree with you, curved side in and flat side out. Works like a champ for me and never have had a screen pull or blow out!!! The inside of the channel is also curved to match the curve of the spline. Fits like a glove and goes in pretty easily too.

@@Daddicated Try it either way and see which way goes in easier. If it didnt matter it would be flat on both sides.

Good suggestion, I'll try that next time. At this point it's done and holding for now so I don't feel like ripping it apart and redoing it.

@@Daddicated Flat side out and rolls easy. Round side out, 10 times harder to roll especially in hard to reach positions

A pro taught me the convex side goes out. But the real trick is putting the edge of the spline in the side of the slot that is closest to the screen opening first, as that side has a recessed groove in it. Then roll the outside edge of the spline into the channel. Once I learned that trick, it was 1000x easier.

In another video they say the round part of the flat spline should face outwards and not inwards but I followed what you said and put the round side facing inwards which is what I did for my screen door after watching your video and I had so much trouble putting the screen in and it took hours to do which it shouldn’t have but it did!

I don’t know are you sure you used the right spline for your door. Cuz some doors require the round spline instead of the flat one. I didn’t have any troubles with mine. Best bet is to observe how your old spline was installed while removing it.

@@Daddicated yes it was the flat spline for sure as I have replaced many screens with the round spline which thus far I would have preferred as the round was fairly easy for me to deal with but this was my first experience using the flat but I am fairly confident that the next go I have with the flat will go much smoother as I learned allot with putting in the flat spline thanks!

My screen guy just told me that the flat side goes in first and the round side faces me when the projects finished. Which is it?

I honestly don’t think it really matters. Your jamming something bigger into a small space and it will hold it and won’t get out. What the screen guy said does make sense tho. I just installed mine the way it was installed before.

The flat side goes in, the convex side goes out or facing you. Watch the other dudes video he shows the correct way and easiest installation of the spline.

That does make sense but I guess in reality you can do either way and it will stay in there. Lol

FFS! Once I learned that you should insert the spline in edge first into the inside of the groove closest to the mesh, install was simple! The inside edge of the groove is indented so it accepts the edge of the spline. Rolling it was then simple. FWIW, I applied it flat side in, figuring it would slip into the indentation easier. This simple step--push the edge of the spline into the inner edge of the groove--changed everything. My neighbors are grateful, as they don't have to hear the loud cussing!
