Didn't know there was such a thing as a difference between permanent and temporary (??) installation! Does that mean they both stick down just as well but one is easier to pull up someday? Really doesn't make a lot of sense.

This was new to me as well. Does this mean it would be advisable to do temporary if you might need to replace a damaged plank one day?
