To anyone that puts a new timing chain and gears in a motor, soak you're chain in oil for hour. I NEVER put a dry chain on. The oil needs to soak into all the link pins. And make sure you put oil on you're new front seal also.

Hello, nice video. I think it was 2003 and I didn't use the internet or KZbin for help. My question is, I did the timing chain kit on a 1986 Ford Bronco. I didn't know anything about marks that needed to be aligned. I just unbolted and took off and did the reverse to put back together. My Bronco started right up and ran fine for about 9 months until I traded it in for a new Ford F-150. Do you really need to align the marks? I did this with my Chevy Aveo, marks were aligned, but I destroyed my engine when it came time to start. What gives?

Timing... Back in the day 4* advance was suppose to be the best for stock HO cam. As a chain breaks-in the cam looses 2+* of timing. I've measured it. I never knew if the 4 was to compensate for the wear, or an actual running amount desired. If so, setting up a new set at 6* adv instead of straight up would be necessary. Any info about this? 🔔👍😎😎
@hotrodray68025 жыл бұрын
BTW... installing a new set thus removing the 2.5* wear made a noticable improvement. Usually 3,000 miles the wear was apparent.

I'm hoping you can help me out here... I have an 87 Mustang GT my brother and I rebuilt the engine for. It's got heads/cam/ intake. I bought the same timing chain you have here. We put the motor together and the timing is running best at around thirty degrees, rather than the usual10-14 degrees. So, IMO, we lined up the wrong dots on the timing chain... does that sound like the problem to you? Our confusion is that the cam we have... a Lunati 51014 cam. It has 4 degrees built into the cam... so we struggle to figure out what marks to line up with this cam. Any advice?
