This video is the COMPLETE guide to installing functional hood vents / hood louvers in your car. This video goes over how to chose an effective vent location, lay out your hood, cut it, fit the vents and rivet them on. The vents that I used were an inexpensive plastic style vent, but more expensive, higher quality aluminum vents follow a similar process. The process will be similar for a hood scoop, with the exception being the direction that the scoop faces.

Here's how to install hood vents on ANY car! Get the vents I used here: (Affiliate links for which I may be compensated) amzn.to/2YZNw0I. If I were to do it again I'd buy some nicer aluminum ones. What are you putting hood vents on?

Nice vid, i would just add that it is a good idea to use touch up paint to cover the exposed metal from the cut so that u can avoid rust

So you cut through the bonnet reinforcement supports? You couldn't of just put them in clear space ?

Great info 👍 now with the hoods vent or bonnet vents.....how does that work when it rains 🌧 🤔I've been wanting bonnet vents on my hood for years🤦‍♂️is there a way we could close them instead when it rains🤔electronic vents🤔
@CashedOutCars
@CashedOutCars 3 жыл бұрын
As mentioned, most if not all engine bay wiring connectors are already waterproof. You certainly can make custom covers to close them off in rain if you’re worried though!

@@CashedOutCars yeah I know everything is pretty much waterproof....beings tho I'm a mechanic....but personally I would want to be able to close it when not in use. But cool video 😎thanks

Do the vents act like a funnel for rain after installing them upside down?
@CashedOutCars

They would, but it's not a big deal and this car doesn't get driven in the rain much anyway

What tool should I use to cut fiberglass hood?
@CashedOutCars
@CashedOutCars 3 жыл бұрын
You could use similar tools as here. Grinders will do a great job, the thinner the disk the better the cut will be. Make sure to wear a mask, fiberglass and resin dust is nasty!

Shouldn’t the pressure be high above the hood and thus travel to the low pressure in the engine bay?
@CashedOutCars
@CashedOutCars 2 жыл бұрын
That’d depend on the shape of the car and the speed it’s going at, you can find pressure maps of lots of cars online. The ones I’ve seen if Miatas (and most vent kits for them) indicate that here is the best spot

This is cool and all but I'd paint the exposed metal that you created after cutting to prevent future rust.. While the tape was there before you took it off would haves been a good time to do so. Just cover more of the hood to not mess up the paint.

These hoods are aluminum, no risk of rust here! If it’s a steel hood I agree

So far so good. The turbine housing will also have a turbo blanket on it to help with spool up and keeping temperatures lower. I think they’ll hold up well, and if they don’t it’s easy to change em to aluminum!
