Thanks! I plan on putting a few gears on a single speed. I’ve calculates what I want, and 5 speeds would cover all I need. It’s cool as there aren’t several chain rings, or 7,9 etc gears that need not clutter ones mind, and really are unnecessary as most do not utilize such small increments of adjustment ever really.

@@johnsmithers284 it’s easy to find a 5 speed freewheel on Ali Express. And that mounts on a standard freewheel hub. And then any friction derailleur and shifter will work with it. Alternatively you can use a cassette hub, and use only the 1st 5 gears. You could even remove the top 3 cogs and replace them with spacers.

Hi, plan buying a cycle based on your need. If you are planning for long rides then a alloy frame is better as the weight is lesser than steel frame. If you are looking for a shorter commute then you can go for a steel frame. One thing you should keep in mind is older cycle frames are heavier than recent models which has mild steel frames. Yes you can buy a second hand and modify that. Below things you may need to check before buying. 1. Steel frame (you can check with a small magnet sticking on the frame) 2. Seat stay and chain stay should be with single rods (which makes the modification easier) 3. Cycle with V Brake or disc brakes are better as after extending the gap other brakes are difficult to set. 4. Last but importantly check for bike fit before you purchase your cycle. Hope this helps.

Hi Jerian, Chain falls when the chain and chainring teeth doesn't match proper and other cause would be alignment between chainring and the gear freewheel. Check these and allign them properly to avoid chain slippage.

Hi, You can modify and install gears only if your cycle frame is of steel. you can install 21 speed gears and It works perfectly. If you want to use only gear freewheel in rear then don't use more than 5 gears for best shifting and low wear and tear of chain and freewheel gears. Yes you can install disc brake and you and find few online with disc brake adaptors. You can replace your rigid fork with suspension fork. To do this measure the diameter of your older fork and match the size while ordering.

Hi, you can check with a small magnet. If that sticks to frame then it's made of steel if not it's an alloy which we cannot modify. The part cost depends on the brand you choose. For an aftermarket copy will be approx 6k INR.

Hi, If it a steel frame you can expand else don't try. Go for minimum gear freewheel available (4or5) so that gap you need will be minimum.

Hi Kashyab Gandhi, Performance will be same and no difference is seen. One thing is the gear setting and alignment should be proper. If you cycle has a steel frame you can go ahead. I recommend to go for 5 or 6 speed as the gap will be less to accomodate a 7speed gear sprocket. - Same hub can be reused. - Axle needs to be purchased based on length after extending the gap. - All other components purchase link can be seen in the video description.

Hi, with a proper alignment of wheel and adjusted of gears we can install in any cycle. Ensure the frame is of steel so that the gap can be increased to fit a gear freewheel.

Hi, This is a after market modification and does not have any standards or documentation available. Gear freewheel are made in a size to suit universal hub and choosing number of gears is based on gap available for it to run. Mostly available are 6 speed and 7 speed. I recommend to use upto 5 gear eventhough it has 7gear to avoid chain noise and slipping.

Hi, cold settings are permitted only on iron frames. So I don't recommend on any alloy or cast iron. Each metal has a permissible limit so it's good not to force too much. As we do this slowly and steadily there is lesser chance of breaking the part.

Is there a way to make a bike with a sturmy 3 speed compatible with a 3-speed cassette? Like, are there there any conversion kits? I love my hercules i found at the tip, and I wish to add a higher and lower gear without completely removing the 3 speed hub. There are 2 ways i can think of doing it. The problem is, do the parts/kits exist? One of my ideas is to replace the single speed sproket on the hub to a small 3-speed cassette, and the other is to replace the single speed drive gear with a 3-speed cassette. Any information would be huge.

Hi Johny, the easy way would be adjusting it by pushing or pulling the joints between seat stays and chain stay, this should happen slowly with minimal force and step by step. Mark a center point and measure it now and them. Wheels should be removed and ensure bike is placed firmly in a bracket/vise. If you bike frame is Aluminum alloy then I will not recommend this as it may break. If you don't want to take a chance then get your bike to a nearest cycle mechanic and instruct then what you want. Hi, you can install gears and as the shopkeeper said you can only go for max 6speed. If your cycle frame is made of steel you can enlarge the gap to accommodate gear freewheel if it's made up of aluminium alloy I don't recommend you to alter anything in frame as it might bent or break the frame.

Hi, with correct allignment of rear wheel and making enough space for gears will work fine. Initially you may have to make some trial and error to get to that position. Once set then no difference between OEM or after market.

Hi Sarjerao, If your bike frame is of aluminium alloy then I don't recommend for any change. If it's a steel frame then you can make adjustments as shown to install a gear freewheel. You can choose only 5 or 6 speed to avoid chain slippages.

Hi, If the manufacturer had provided gaps for adding gears then we can else we cannot increase the hub space in aluminium frame. If may break.

Hi Brother, you can do if your cycle frame is made of steel. Not recommended for Alloy frame as it may brake while doing adjustments.

Hi, Yes you can install a cassette and for that you need to replace the existing hub with a free hub. Also keep a note that cassette comes from 7 speed and for that you may have to enlarge the gap more than what you do for a freewheel. Think for the sturdiness of the frame. Also if its not a disk brake setup then aligning the brake is a bit challenge where you may have to use some extender clamps. Hope this helps!
