Hopefully you can be able to answer, The maths says, in general, it's 84.2 CFMs per 1Kw. So, the original 5 Kw heating strip would require 421 CFM, which is essentially a 1 ton capacity, so now you are installing a 10 Kw heating strip, so 84.2 x 10= 842 CFM's would be required to satisfy the new heating kit, if your blower motor has only one speed setting, Wouldn't you be under air-flow?

This was a really helpful video. We purchased a Rheem 5 ton package unit from you with a 10 KW heat strip that we had to install. It is a different installation procedure, but this gave me the basics that I needed to get ours done right. Thank you very much! We got a good deal on a quality system. Can anyone tell me how to run power to the heater coil? I have a package goodman unit that is set up for AC only. I'm adding the HKR-08c heat strip. The way it is set up now I have power from the main panel to a fused breaker attached to outside of unit. 2 large 110 legs of power from fused breaker to the main contactor in the unit. My question is this - I need to run the two 110 lines to the heat strip. Where do I run the power from? Piggyback it from the fused breaker or contactor in unit?

I believe you arrow was put on upside down. All that I've seen, put the coils closest to the blower motor.

I have the one with the Breaker like you were talking about in the video how do I wire up the breaker can I wire it to the main power coming into the unit or do I have to have another hour come in from outside the unit in or do I this route the main power coming into that breaker instead of the one that’s hooked up to right now in the unit

Your A/C plug has three wires (white, blue, brown) just like mine... I noticed that on mine, the heat strip plug has no metal connector inside to correspond to the brown wire.. it seems to just terminate uselessly in the plug. I wonder why...

FIGURED IT OUT... the brown wire terminates in the plug if the heat strip is single stage. If the heat strip had a second stage, it would connect to the brown wire. In my case, the brown wire is NOT connected to the thermostat, so I had a six-wire connection to the thermostat, and when I put that info (Rh, C, W/W1, Y/Y1,G/G1, & O) into the wiring configurator, it asked if I had dual-fuel (I said no), and then it gave me a wiring diagram for 1-stage heat pump with Aux and emergency heat. Victory!

@@drayden7937 I was referring to the Nest E thermostat wiring configurator. Prior to figuring out this mess, I thought that all 7 low-voltage wires from inside the heat pump would connect to the thermostat, and inputting that into said configurator yielded the message " not compatible" or "get a professional." Once I figured out that for a single-stage heat strip, the brown wire isn't connected either to the heat strip or the thermostat, the same configurator (given the remaining six wires) gave me "single stage heat pump with auxillary and emergency heat." It's working now, heating my home.

I put this unit on a few of my rentals but have not been able to test them because it is too hot here. Do I need to run additional power to the coils or do they pull the power from the main power block for the air conditioner?
