Just ordered my floor from you guys (with a great discount) and this video was a super watch. Ive done a lot of standard plank floors before but this one is going to be complicated as its a multi room, T-shaped layout,open plan with kitchen/lounge and diner. Still trying to work out the best way to lay it out.

The video was very detailed, clear and informative thanks. And after watching, it raised a couple of questions for me to clarify: Firstly, I understand that LVT can be laid in a herringbone pattern, but I have recently been informed that only if it's a 'glue down or loose lay product'. And LVT that has a 'click and lock' mechanism on the sides will not work in a herringbone pattern because it can't click together properly and therefore will be compromised/fail? Secondly, I was also informed to lay 'click' LVT existing skirting need to be removed due prior to fitting if architrave isn't wanted? Just needed some clear clarification around both points. Thanks

This is great, thank you. What if the room is not square. Do you take the widest point, perhaps? Or a different approach?
@floor.street2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you for your comment. Even if the room is not square you’re main goal should be to find the centre of the room. So you should measure the width at both ends of the room and find the centre.

Barbara, I'm by no means a professional, but you might want to look into Coretec floors. I installed the floors in my house myself using their herringbone line, so if I can do it, you can do it. They can be installed on any surface.

Yes hide the expansion gaps under the skirting board. If your expansion gap is 10mm you’ll want your skirting board to be at least 15mm

Great video and found it at just the right time, as about to fit a herringbone style SPC Vinyl floor in our kitchen/garage conversation 👍. What underlay would you recommend as existing floor is part concrete and part timber (where is been extended into the garage area)? The SPC flooring comes with a thin foam underlay attached to it, but kitchen fitter has recommended I also fit a 2mm underlay as well.
@floor.street Жыл бұрын
we wouldn't recommend installing an extra underlay underneath SPC flooring. You just need a smooth and hard subfloor.

I’ve been quoted £20 per m2 and extra £40 per room for skirting. Makes my labour cost for my little bungalow £810. Seems a bit excessive for a days wage. Is this how joiners normally price things? I’m a spark myself and I would never earn £800 a day!

For sure the most comprehensive video I've seen, but I'm gonna do a glued installation and I'm wondering what's your technique to make a perfect start since I won't obviously be able to adjust the tip of my (glued) first line along the way as you did... On this (great) video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5abgK2cgsSIfc0), they're building the first line without any glue, perfectly wedged, and then use it as a guideline. What's your opinion and what would you recommend instead ?
@Rickblues46 Жыл бұрын
You did not find the two centre lines of the room you put a line parallel to one wall .. ei you should have measured in at least four points the width and found the centre of each and the run a line through the mean average of these marks .. then the pointless exercise of finding half block width to follow a lazer line when you run what you called the crown square with the top first wall as not all rooms are square and true This brings into conflict your entire setting out method and the use of a 45degree set square to do cuts, as you do not use a traditional bordered method this involves other problems such as waste wood cuttings and through other areas or doorway all this would be eliminated if you used true tested old wood block or parquet flooring methods ! Says I a retired old school floorlayer layer😢😢

I'd agree with how he is doing it, the surface of them laminate boards are extremely hard and will dull a mitersaw blade in no time, it is much more cost effective to use jigsaw blades which are much cheaper, granted the cuts are not as good but will be covered over anyway by skirting or moulding
