Then I have two suggestions for you. For your perimeter fence I’d encourage you to run a five wire high tensile fence with wires spaced (from ground up) 6, 12, 18, 30, and 42 inches. To accomplish this use a 1.5 to 1.75 diameter by 5 foot (or taller) t-posts. 1.5 will be most economical and still get the job done. They are going to be a little less costly than 1.75 diameter posts (check your local dealer’s pricing). The 1.75 diameter posts are a littler beefier, are easier to drive into the ground, and look nicer in my opinion. I have farmers who run both without a problem even 1.5 for cattle. That fence configuration will be good for pigs, sheep, and just about anything you could run up to and including cattle. For any inside fences you can run a 3-4 wire fence. I’d suggest running your wire at 9, 21, 33 inches, or 6, 15, 27, 39. If you think you may ever want to run a taller fence go ahead and get the 1.75”x6’ posts and never look back. You’ll have room to add a wire as high as 5 1/2’ and they look great! If you install anything 6’+ tall, don’t use 1.5” diameter posts. It feels like trying to pound licorice into the ground. If you have very hard or rocky soil, I definitely recommend pre-drilling a pilot hole using a right-angle drill that is 1/2” smaller than the post you’re installing. You can buy 18” auger bits from timeless, or pick them up from your local hardware store. Harbor Freight has a really cheap set you can buy for next to nothing. Lastly, make sure you drive the post to the printed mark at 18”. No more, no less. If you drive them further in it creates a weak point where they can snap off at the first pre-drilled hole. If you don’t drive them in far enough they can be weak and come loose. Any further questions, let me know.
