Assuming you've got an Apple Silicon machine like I do, then you should just be able to use the same path commands I had in the video (obviously replacing the /Users/easyosx line with your own user folder name). You can also find your Paths, or at least see if Homebrew is one of them, but typing in: echo $path That command won't set anything in your Path, just what you have currently

every time I try to copy the two commands to add brew to the path I always get error messages saying "command not found" and "no file or directory" if I try anything with "brew" in the command it tells me the command isn't found. help?

Kind of sounds like Brew didn’t install correctly. What happened if you run the Brew install command again?

Ah I think I see. Normally Brew installs through the bash shell, not the zsh shell. If you had switched to that beforehand that could be why you’re having the problem. You can either switch to bash long enough to install brew then switch back OR you can run these sets of commands below. Run them one at a time and in order. cd /opt/homebrew/bin/ PATH=$PATH:/opt/homebrew/bin cd touch .zshrc echo export PATH=$PATH:/opt/homebrew/bin >> .zshrc

Try rebooting and then running the install script again from the Brew site again. If that doesn't work, then it might be either a network config issue or a security software issue like an antivirus or firewall rule.

Bash is still the default in most instances, and it's how Homebrew installs itself, but ZSH is what Apple has switched to and is encouraging people to use

If you're referring to Homebrew, it's a Terminal only app so you'll only run it in the Terminal. I have a few other tutorials on my channel about it. But basically whenever you want to use it you'll just type in "brew " then the command. So if you wanted to install an app like Firefox you'd type in brew install firefox There's a whole bevy of commands, some of which I've covered on the channel and others I haven't, but there isn't a graphical interface for it like other apps, it's strictly a terminal app. Let me know if this answers your questions.

First, are you running this on an Intel or Apple Silicon Mac? As far as the error goes, it seems like something got added to your bashrc improperly, either appended to another command or has an erroneous character somewhere. You could use your text editor of choice, either something like nano in the Terminal, or a GUI app like TextEdit to find the line where Brew was added and try to correct it. Alternatively, if you don’t have much other editing to that file before this, you could try moving that file and having the Terminal make a fresh copy.

Hi, I'm having trouble on the beginning part of your instructions. When I type in the first Xcode command all I get is a little tab that says "Finding software" and a loading bar that is stuck. I even tried running it for a day or two and nothing happened. Can you help me?

First thing would be to reboot then try again. Second thing would be to check if you have any trouble using the Internet. Third thing would be to check if you’ve got any antivirus or network security stuff that could be blocking it. There are other things to try but those are the first 3

Honestly it’s probably because they expect most people to use it in the Terminal, but maybe something for an enterprising programmer to try and make. You can always run “brew update && brew upgrade” to see if it works. Or try to install something with Brew. Do you have an Intel Mac or Apple Silicon? The Intel Mac might not show the same warnings.

Sounds like you might be installing an app that hasn’t been updated to run natively on Apple Silicon and has to use the Rosetta translation layer to use its Intel code. Try installing Rosetta with the following command: /usr/sbin/softwareupdate --install-rosetta --agree-to-license

It depends on what machine you have and your configuration. Intel machines most commonly won't give you one because it already set everything up, whereas the Apple Silicon machines pretty much always do. If you're able to run the basic "brew update" and "brew upgrade" commands without error, then you're probably fine. If not, then you may need to uninstall Brew and start over.

Usually it shouldn't take that long to download and install. That's a bit concerning. But once it is done, you should be able to add Brew to your Terminal Path, restart the Terminal, and it'll be ready to go.
