For those of you who are first timers, let's this be a lesson for you. Please retain the old brake line holder bolt unless you're confident that you can run the brake cable through without fraying the cable. Me being a moron took the cable off and try to run it through the new bolt and frayed the cable. I thought it wouldn't matter, but it had destroyed the brake cable. Now, new cables are being ordered and hopefully getting installed properly like this video. Lesson learned for me, at least.

I have hydraulic brakes on my favorite machine... came installed and finding where to put brake fluid in is the aggravating point because the lines are all wrapped in a mesh wrap but guess will have to remove the mesh when it needs fluid in time... any way I do love the 750 watt Bafang motor on the ebike and the brakes are a neccessary thing as fast as it goes. I love the machine and I bought a Luckeep and Suzuki partneered with them in the electrical stuff and has a really nice Samsung battery in the machine. I like how well the hydraulic brakes work compared to my e-bike with mechanical brakes. Wish you the best and thanks for the video on how to do this stuff... will help for finding where everything is on my machine and I'm sure the fluid fill is under all that mesh wrap on my machine. Beautiful machine, spent the morning looking a lost cow that was finally found dead in a ditch... being a cowboy on an e-bike today... strange how the world changes...

Another good video. I think I’ll take a pair, or even 3 pairs (I have 3 Radrovers 2017) of those hydraulic brakes . But now I’m going to hold you to your word of making videos of the Radrover faster. My personal areas of interest is a 52V /35amp controller that is plug and play with the radrover, kt-lcd8h color display, real 750 watt Bafang motor upgrade and a 52V / 30ah battery pack in a triangle bag that is plug and play compatible and fits 2017 Radrover. Nobody is making good step by step videos of upgrading the Radrover. These brakes are a good start. Please help us Radrover enthusiasts. We are mostly made up of the older bicyclists that enjoy modding and accessorizing our Rads way more than the Sondors crowd.

I did the same, replaced the mechanical calipers with a hydraulic caliper actuated by a cable. But the braking power is really bad. In fact very low braking power compared to mechanical brakes. And even worse is the lever is very hard. Finally installed a full hydraulic brake system with fluid tubes. And WOW ! The lever is smooth as butter with only 3 fingers and the braking power is EXCELLENT !

With regular hydraulic brakes, you need less hand pressure than mechanical brakes to get the same level of stopping power. Is this true of these cable-actuated brakes as well? I don't necessarily feel like I need more stopping power than the mechanical brakes, but I have some hand issues, so if these brakes require less hand pressure to yield the same level of stopping power, there would be value in that for me. TIA for any thoughts.
@Area13ebikes6 жыл бұрын
Jake that's an excellent question. Yes, they are easier to stop with than standard mechanical brakes. I would however say a 100% hydraulic setup has an easier lever pull as you don't have the friction of the steel cable involved.

@@jakelondon - Hi Jake - compression-less cables and housing is the way to go. Jagwire is the more known brand but a step up is the Yokozuna is the best. @CoolCityCycling Жыл бұрын
Cable pull bicycle brakes are trash! Even the hybrid ones. I tried them both. If the brakes aren't damaged. Then it's probably the steel line itself. I found out when I squeeze down to the max trying to stop my mountain bike. Over time the line stretches. Yes the cable itself begins to stretch. That's why a person will always be adjusting those damn brakes. Even Shimano's entry level hydraulic brakes are far superior to even the best cable pull brake setup. You'll be able to skid with ease. They feel loser compared to the cable pull brakes and the hybrids. But they have a wall at the bottom that's firm and takes little effort to stop the bike.

what brake pads fit this M1 ? And what is the difference between M1 and R1 ?
@nukedathlonman4 жыл бұрын
Well, the R1 will be optimized for the leverage a road bike's caliper brake needs from the levers. The M1 will be optimized for the cable pull and leverage that MTB/Flat bar brake levers normally used for V-brakes. Their is an assortment of standards and pulls (old school cant's are different still, and you can find flat bar levers with road bike pull ratios and drop down levers with V-brake pulls, etc). But generally most modern equipment fall into one of those two categories. So in short, if bike uses V-brake levers, the M1 is the ticket. If the bike uses road bike levers optimized for calipar brakes the R1 is the brake to get. It's all about leverage - if the pull is too much, you'll get a wooden feeling brake with next to no pull at the lever with little to no power or modulation of that power (the pads will move too much for the brake lever movement giving poor power control). If the pull ratio is too little you'll pull the brake levers all the way back and seem to get no brake power but lot's of modulation given how little the pads will move for the same lever movement. As for replacement pads, I'm curious as well - I keep seeing these can use Shimano pads, but which pads I have no idea (Shimano has a pretty wide assortment of pads for all the Disc Brakes they've made over the years). Hoped the info helped & have fun! :-)
@nukedathlonman4 жыл бұрын
It would appear what everyone is talking about for replacement pads are older Shimano pads - the A01S (Rosin/Organic), M06 (Sintered), and M06 Ti (Sintered with Titanium back plate) look right... I'm basing that on the pictures of the pad set on Bolton Ebikes, so I'm not 100% these will work. But Juin Tech's replacement pads (right off the packaging) which def will work are P/N: GG-DP17+SP17. Obviously Bolton Ebikes should have them in stock. :-)

Depends on pad type, organic resin will give less milage, semi metallic more, you don't need to go with the pads that come with it, they have a special pad adjuster screw at the back, which pulls both pistons in, no bled on these as its a sealed fluid camber and its only the calipers that have fluid in, not the brake line.

@@Area13ebikes Thanks. Good to know. This past week I actually called the head mechanic at a popular LBS near me and asked him about converting from the stock mechanical disc brakes on my soon to arrive Zhengbu K6 to a hybrid setup, exactly as you showed here. He said he hadn't heard of any hybrid hydraulic set ups in over 10 years. He also suggested that mechanical discs can operate fine if they're set up properly from the start and maintained/readjusted afterwards. Therein lies the rub. I've watched several videos on how to adjust mechanical discs and they all gave me a headache. He said he'd be glad to show he how to readjust them, but I just don't have the confidence. He then suggested that if I wanted to go the hydraulic route to go full hydraulic, or else stay with the mechanical setup. My preference, after seeing this, would be to go with the hybrid setup. This video is exactly what I was looking for. I might give the mechanical discs a try to start out with. If the brakes look/sound like they're set up properly when the bike arrives in a couple of days I'll bed in the pads then take the bike up for him to give a good once over. After that I'll ride it and see how they feel. I know when I go from my hydraulic Yamaha Urban Rush to my non-Ebike Kestrel with (formerly) nice calipers (Ultegra) I feel like I'm back in the stone age. The difference is dramatic and I don't like it. If it's a minimal difference I might stick with the stock brakes until I need to replace the pads. If they totally suck I'll be ordering the Juin Tech brakes for sure.

So... these are cable actuated hydraulic disc brakes...? These hydraulics are not fully hydraulic like those with hydraulic levers and oil reservoirs..

Question regarding these brakes on a rad mini 2020 . The rad bikes disc comes with an option for adjustment on them on the disc itself using a provided tool with the bike . After installing the juintech brakes , does this still work to adjust at disc as well . ?

If my Rad Mini with the pwr upgrade is able to grab the rotors hard enough to begin skidding or softer (so I slow to a non-skid stop quickly) if I don't squeeze as hard, then how will hydraulic improve my stopping distance? Not saying they can't. I just want to understand how they can improve upon the current braking that seems 100% effective... depending on how hard I squeeze. I'm a lightweight rider if that makes any difference to the scenario. Is it solely because of the double sided grip? Thanks

Hey! I'm getting a bike that's basically the same as the "fat step through" on your site and I'm interested in getting the 355 brake set in the near future. Do you know which cutoff I should choose on your listing? Thanks!

Unless it's exactly the same bike purchase from me, I don't know.

hydraulic and mechanical brakes have the same stopping power, if adjusted correctly. one of them just needs lighter pressure to activate

Great video. Will these Juintech M1 hydraulic calipers work on my magicycle?
@Area13ebikes2 жыл бұрын
It should

The M1 is not available? Is this the newer version: Juin Tech R1 Cable Actuated Hydraulic Bicycle Bike Disc Brake Caliper. Please advise.

I've been using TRP Hy/RD hydraulic brake calipers for 2 seasons on my road bikes. They work great, and retain the brake cables as well.

I just ordered those.... and found this video.... I can't wait for more stopping power, I just put on dual pull brakes and that was better than single pull.... but I'm going hydro! Lol

I’m sorry but I don’t see hydraulic brake lines installed on this ebike. Hydraulic brakes use oil not a wire correct? I don’t think this is true hydraulic brakes that require oil and no cable line.

You are supposed to have conical washers on both sides of the caliper. Without them, when you tighten, the caliper cannot articulate to the rotor fully. It only sort of aligns. That's why those washers are that weird shape.
