Great how to. I did this to my sons Defender last night. A few things to note FOR DEFENDER OWNERS. Maybe ours sits a lot lower, because the axles were pointed too far up. Almost binding at rest. The wheelbase stretched way too much. The fronts can roll but only straight. No flexing or turning. The rears are literally stuffed into the fender/body. Also, the servo hits the crossmember that's behind the front bumper eliminating upward motion almost completely. SO, I removed all of the spacers except for 2 on each of the front upper links. The front axle is good now, but I still need to trim the bumper and the body. The rears are still against the body. I'm pulling out the dremel again. This thing is already very trimmed at every corner and the front bumper has been cut. I hope this helps someone. I love modding these things just like we do with the 1:1 scale rigs lol.

Thank you so much bro I'm glad you like the content and that you find it helpful. Sounds like you're using High Trail links on your Defender. Definitely only use one spacer on either side of the upper links for a much better angle on the drive shaft also allowing for better articulation of the front suspension. I totally agree I find it a lot of fun to work on these little trucks, if you do not put the spaces on the front upper links and rear upper links, causes an uneven drive throughout the system, and it also really limits the travel on the front suspension. Indeed it does like catching on the front bumper mount so just grind away enough for it to pass by without catching. Ouça a nada little trick if you've got an upgraded servo, is to use a touch of super glue pulling the rubber boot and electric cables backwards so they don't catch on the mount. If there's anything I can help with just let me know. 🤜💥🤛

I appreciate the feedback bro, thank you very much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. The two angled ends you get off for the lower links in the front. They changed the design on the high Trail and since then every single kit comes with an extra set of those. I recommend using them as it actually provides better articulation. Look up my video fitting the high clearance links to the high Trail and you'll see with a belong.

@rcfungames
@rcfungames Жыл бұрын
Thanks bro 👊😉 If I didn't put the spacers in it is pointless having the height clearance kit because the drivelines would be hitting before the links. And the angles on the drive lines were so severe that it would cause binding for no reason. So by eliminating the angles you reduce the friction. Now I've got to find some heavy duty foams for my wheels.

Do you think you could fit more than 2 spacers to lengthen the wheelbase ? I’m guessing those spacers are 1mm each… I’m between getting those to increase the wheelbase or getting the solid ones for more weight. In the rear I want to do the high trail to get those extra 6mm
@rcfungames
@rcfungames 9 ай бұрын
Yes I think you could get away with fitting two on either side! And I would say they are more like one and a half millimeter You can also just buy a set of metal spacers and use them instead as it comes with quite a few different sizes. But yes definitely possible! And if you really trying to stretch it just get the high Trail links and use two spaces on either side to stretch it even more!
@BertsRC

I love the idea of the links, and followed your suggestions on the spacers, which worked well. I'm having trouble though because the ball joints are all so stiff that it doesn't let the suspension work. I've ran a few packs through it to see if it'd loosen up, but still just bounces on the tires. Does anyone have any suggestions to loosen them up? They were tight at install, but I thought it would be ok...

Im a fanatic when it comes to ball joint movement. The free'er the better, Id rather have a hair of slop than too tight. A few things you might do. A tiny round file, run it around the plastic hole a good amount of times...lightly and evenly ofc. Ive also used a drill bit that just ALMOST fits through by hand and run it through a dozen X. No need to use the drill gun. In this case I used an 11/64 drill bit for all the rod ends, and had to do more with a tiny file on a few of them. If you have a dremel, there is a bunch of small accessories you could use as well. A small stone bit works just as marvelous as a tiny round file. Dont even need to use the dremel. Clean up any plastic flashing around and inside the hole with an exacto knife when your done.... And I always put a drop of oil on the ball joint even if it fits perfect from the factory.
@dvaughnluma
@dvaughnluma Жыл бұрын
Easiest way to free stiff ball joints is to slightly squeeze the sides of the joint with needle nose pliers. Just slightly. Should free the ball up. You don’t want to squeeze too hard and bend the plastic permanently.
@BertsRC

Im in-between the brass links without the rod head and these, not sure if there is benefit with either? Or any benefits of having the adjustable rod head. Oh and I wa referring to the part (SKU 4M-45) .
@rcfungames
@rcfungames Жыл бұрын
The benefit with the adjustable rod head is that you can adjust the axle angle. Which believe me is something you definitely want to do if you want a bit more articulation without any issues. Hope that helps you decide. Thanks for watching and commenting 🤜🤛

I didn't use the spacers,... Is it why it's kinda binding the shafts ? My car is shaking at low speeds as if there was some binding ? Is it due to the angle of the shaft because the links are too short ? 🤞🤞

@rcfungames
@rcfungames Жыл бұрын
Hello Tomé The benefit of having the spacers, is so you can set the angle of the axle, if you do not the angles on the drive shaft, are too severe. Check out my video of fitting the high clearance links to the Bronco. I believe I do explain where to fit the spacers to reduce the angle on the drive shafts.

Wouldnt adding spacers like 2 to both side all rears wouldn't that push the diff /pinion gear angle downward? U would think removing the spacers making it shorter would pull angle up moving axle housing closer to middle and adding would extend. so it would push axle housing and diff angle out and downward. I mean if u think about it. Cause I did that to my bronco after watching ur video where I only had 1 spacer on each side of rear links and after putting 2 on each side it did just that. It seemed to move mine downard not upward outta the way. So I'm now thinking of removing all spacers and putting on to actually pull it up. But maybe it's just where I'm using treal housings also maybe there r different angled then the plastic housings. Good video tho.
@rcfungames
@rcfungames Жыл бұрын
If you place them on the bottom links yes it will push the diff further away making it come down not good. If you place them on the upper links it pivots the diffs giving you much better angles on your drivelines This has worked great on both my rigs. Really appreciate the view and comment 🤜🤛
