Great video! Only thing I'd suggest different is using "the right stuff," gasket maker. I use the 90 minute stuff because I always feel in a rush with the 5 or 1 minute stuff. Best thing about this gasket maker is, it's ready to be ran after 90 minutes, at most. Traditional gasket maker requires 12 hours or more.

I’ve been stalled out building my first engine SBC, because I am not getting good info on the heat exchange ports, I thank you for this great video but I wish I could have seen a little closer how to get the aluminum plate from interfering with the gasket lying flat and enough “lip” to not blow into the head or intake when I start running. But at least I know there is a way.

Solid advice. I thought the heat crossover was for deicing on cold start up. My 76c10 has a valve on the left exhaust that is closed when cold to force exhaust through the crossover and out the right manifold. Once warm, the valve opens and backpressure reduces. I'd like to block it off anyway....

Also, The Fel-pro 1205 gasket come with cork china wall gaskets. Not that it matters, still throw them away. I prefer the 1205 because the heat crossover is less likely to leak, even when blocking them off on the heads. Printa seal also just gives me warm fuzzys. Sure the ms90314-2 is adequate for 90% of street or mild builds.

This that I'm speaking to you on is my KZbin channel if you go back and look at my most recent couple of videos well I've got a bunch of videos about the Blazer but it's a small block Chevrolet 350 for the Edelbrock four barrel some headers MSD Street fire distributor I can't get my dad to help me so I'm figuring out things on my own but yes I have made my own block off plate for the EGR I was running my TBI intake with an adapter this is all on my videos well now I found it 84 or 85 Camaro 305 ho intake it's aluminum and it's actually a four barrel intake the TBI intake has two small holes for air I believe my Edelbrock 4 barrel will like this and take a little better but I cleaned it with a wire bristle brush and my drill and it looks like Chrome it's beautiful but anyways I made the mistake of getting antifreeze everywhere because I did not drain enough coolant before I loosened up the intake yeah and I had a fresh oil change in it as of last week pisses me off I checked the oil and it really doesn't look like I got any antifreeze in it when I loosened up the intake but my luck I probably did anyways I like the idea of the license plate and I forgot about that being a heat exchange when I blew my intake gaskets I thought I could hear a funny sound like it was my exhaust coming through the top of the carburetor when I would rev it up it's still ran perfect when I thought I blew intake gaskets it would run pretty decent and not lose coolant but I could hear a sound all of a sudden coming through the carburetor like it was the exhaust I couldn't explain it to people it's kind of odd but the truck all of a sudden started missing I ran it a little warm because of a stuffed thermostat one day after work it got a little warm and when I turned onto a open road I punched it to get it to start cooling back down and I heard something pop not like a pop but like something blowing out then it started slightly missing I did a fresh oil change on it and put new spark plugs in it and it still runs the same you barely see a little coolant between the intake and the valve cover but not enough to notice in the radiator so it was not really losing any coolant but you could see a little bit on top of the intake on each side between the intake and the valve covers I love my little truck and I just need all the advice I can to get this thing back on the road any advice would be appreciated I guess kind of what I'm asking is blocking off that piece with the license plate do you think if I blowed my intake gaskets but it wasn't losing coolant do you think when I punched it to the floor that day that it blew somewhere along that runner for the exhaust would that make me hear the sound back through the carburetor out the top of the carburetor when I rev it up I don't know just a thought I have worked on cars all my life and I'm 39 years old and when I say all my life I mean I've been under chevelles and race cars with my dad since I was 4 years old but nowadays my dad's kind of hard to deal with it's a long story there too 😂 but anyways I trust other people over his word nowadays it seems like he tries to sabotage me LOL

@@SquarebodyStuff i have two sets of numbers on the front is v0215tpr i cant find the tpr at all on the either that you posted, i find the v for flint and that it. on the driver back side of engine is ck 38 or 8819602 , the cast number is on back and it is a 85 to 95 350 4 bolt main engine. so i had machine work done and im putting some 1972 z28 heads on it with the original cast iron intake with a 800 cfm quadrajet, i was always told if running cast iron intake dont block off, aluminum block um off is why i was asking , in the past i have run both blocked and unblocked with both cast and aluminum and was wanting your take if you ever found any good or bad from either or , thats a mouth full hahahah. love the show mate im bolting these heads on today and always in for some learning and caught your video. but ya i found the engine cast numbers fine , but the second ,ink on the green card sent my mind to the moon hahahah , thanks for returning info

Where did you get the diagram from 7:26? I've been looking for that to find out if that port next to thermostat port was manifold vacuum or coolant fitting
@SquarebodyStuff

It was just a Google image I ran across. The ports on the front next the the thermostat are for the coolant.

The video was detailed, but… you are one messy engine rebuilder/installer…. You painted the valve springs white? More like over sprayed it?? Also, license plates to cover up the two holes Under the manifolds? . Who has that laying around? Good thing you didn’t say a piece of metal only found on the titanic.
