As a chemical engineer let me add my 2 cents about the easy change system. The filter may be superior to standard filters, trapping more contaminants, however- that does nothing to prevent the thermal breakdown happening to the oil, specifically the remaining bulk of old oil still in the engine, which will become more concentrate over time and oil "changes". The oil will lose viscosity and cleaning agents, and accelerate the wear of the engine. I'd highly recommend the conversion back to standard oil changes at the first oil change.

That’s what I was thinking but when I bought it from someone I know I just pulled the trigger and bought it off them. If I would have done my homework with all the dirty that stays in the engine, even after an oil change, I would’ve passed on it and looked into something else

Great video. Once you break the spark plug loose, take the socket off the ratchet and put it on the drive handle. Easier to take out and reinstall than using your fingers in that tight space, then put the socket back on the ratchet for the last 1/4 turn to snug.

The light is actually on a timer with the hour meter so it will automatically clear once you get a ways past the 25 hour mark. There is no reset like you would have on your vehicle.

I have a smaller yard so I only put 10 hours on my S120 last year (which was also the first year I had the mower). I noticed the air filter barely had any dirt in it. Do you think I'd need to change everything (oil, air, fuel, plugs) after 10 hours? I'm not sure since I'm about to start it up for the first time this year. I live near Cleveland, so it was in my garage in colder weather over the winter.
@WesternEquipment2 жыл бұрын
You are probably ok to hold off until the end of this year. The main thing I would do is make sure it starts and if not then get a charger on your battery and let it sit over night. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Great video. Question. I keep seeing a mixture of responses. When I took off my old filter and applied the new one I got it to turn and it locked, or so it felt like it locked into place. The yellow arrow pointed down to the metal locked symbol, NOT the metal arrow. I was told by countless people and the dealer to make sure the yellow arrow matches the metal arrow. I cannot seem to get it to turn anymore. I am installing it as you were. Any suggestions?

Can you turn the filter back towards the removal position without having to press down hard on the filter? If so, then it is not locked properly. You may have the filter tipped somewhat.

A better solution would be to install the original extended drain tube with locking cap. The biggest problem with the EZ system is that you are essentially running used oil all the time.

One of the reasons I bought the 120 is the Easy Oil Change. However, I see a lot of people online who criticize it because they insist that all of the oil must be drained, otherwise the engine will be damaged over time. What's your opinion on it?
@WesternEquipment3 жыл бұрын
Here’s the thing, if this was a vehicle and you didn’t change ALL of the oil I would see that as a problem but with mowers they are normally only used a few months out of the year so the life you will get out of the engine is usually not the concern. The other thing that people don’t take into consideration is how much bigger and better made the actually filter is on the easy change system. So it is going to clean the existing oil better than a normal filter. Lastly, if a major manufacturer like John Deere is using it then it has been thoroughly tested and proven to be a good system or they would have scrapped the idea before putting it out. Good question, this is one I get a lot. I am a big fan of the easy change system. I think it’s great for the consumer.

Can you by pass the 30 sec system and change the oil manually once in awhile?
@WesternEquipment Жыл бұрын
You can use a pump to suck out the old oil from the fill tube or you can just by the conversion kit to change it back to the regular filter and drain style.
@buggsy58 ай бұрын
If you did the conversion yourself - hopefully you kept the original long drain tube and locking cap. If not, buy it from JD and install it in place of the drain plug. You can then drain all the oil during an oil change. You will have to add about 2 more quarts of oil in addition to what is supplied in the EZ filter.,

Either way I’m going back to the traditional oil filter system and will be removing this new quick/EZ system as it’s ONLY swapping 1/3 of the oil. 2/3 of the old/used oil still remains in your engine. And I’m paying 40 bucks for an oil filter? Come on folks..... If you don’t believe it, watch the video link below. I’m just glad I dug around. Glad I dug around this topic.
