I’m no expert but I think you want the breaker as close to the van battery as possible. If the wire shorts out and trips the breaker it will still be live the entire length of the van in your setup. Unless I missed something.

I believe you're correct. I recently bought this unit and it says in the instructions the fuse/breaker should be installed no more than 7" from the battery. There is also a fuse/breaker shown between the charger and the house bank. Also, probably a good idea to connect an ignition connection.

Moreover, I am not sure connecting the black to the van shell is best. Current always makes it back to the source thus in this case uses the van metal shell to get back. Best is to make sure the negative run thru wire all the way back to the battery. In this case, you got the DC distribution center close by, I would connect it there.

So the first red wire is from the van battery. The first black wire is attached to the van chassis metal?

Thanks, I was told by Kisae the charge controller senses the voltage increase from the alternator and doesn't need the smart wire. It just needs the positive from the battery / alternator.

Look's like an easy install & a good job at that! Question? Let's say you were boondocking for week and your system was very low. On the 6 hour way home, how will the vehicles alternator deal with this load?

I read on one of the sprinter forums you can take up to 50 amps from the stock sprinter alternator. If you have a different vehicle I suggest you call the dealer. You can easily set the charge current on the dmt1250 if you are worried about drawing too much from the alternator.

Did you set your system to also charge van battery from lithium if low?

Hi, the van alternator charges the van battery. The lithium batteries do not charge the van battery.
