Don't lower the axle too far down at first, and the bolt holding the leaf springs in place will have less pressure on it. Helping the bolt come out easier.

If you are not going to reuse the leaf spring you are removing USE HEAT to break the bolt loose I use a propane torch (Yellow bottle) Or sometimes Heat / cool / heat / cool etc. I cool it with WD-40 because it penetrates as it loosens. Great idea using the jack for leverage!

heat is the only way i could get mine off, just make sure you dont catch the interior of fire when doing the front bolt.!. and i think the yellow bottle you are talking about is MAPP gas (methylacetylene-propadiene propane).?. it burns hotter than propane but uses a different torch head

Little top tip! If you are tightening bolts that are subject to coming loose, What to do is draw a line down the nut and down a bit further to whatever it's connected to... That way a quick check would be to confirm the lines are matching!

If i can suggest something. ( I know this maybe highly debated) Anti seize on the suspension bolts. Buy a tub of the stuff. Use it library. I learned over the years. It keep rust down. I tighten the bolts every so often. And never had a problem. But if I need to remove a bolt... They come off without a fight. And Dielectric grease too. (All electrical plugs) Off road and corrosion is a big problem. If you dont have Anti seize on hand Axle grease can help just does not seem to last as long. AND ALWAYS CHECK SUSPENSION BOLTS REGULARLY, Even if you torqued to spec.. better safe then broken on the trail. I also use Dielectric grease on the little trim screws where they mount into plastic. makes installation/removal smoother too. My friends used to think i was crazy.. Now they all have large tubs of the stuff because of the time it saves.

I attempted to install these same shackles today...it did not go nearly as smooth as yours. The bolts had to be threaded through the holes in the new shackles and did not slide right in like yours did. Also, for some reason, the bolt provided with the kit must have been a different thread than the OE bolt? I don't know but it was very difficult to tighten. I also ended up having to burn out the bushings from my leaf springs (I did not replace my leafs) to remove the shackles...such a PITA.

I'm in the process of installing the RC 4.5" X series kit as we speak! Front was way easier ,but a bit more technical than the rear. On my '96, Both of my front spring eye bolts had to be sawsall'd off. Stupid sleeve was froze to the bolts! I soaked the damn bolts with PB blast every day for a week before I even attempted to remove them.Drivers side nut broke off inside the frame. I had to cut a hole in the bottom of the frame, remove the stock nut and replace with a nylon lock nut, and new bolt. I figure I'll just fold the flaps back over the hole I cut in the frame and weld it up.then spray it down with some undercoating. Probably have to do the same on the Passenger side. Tip: make damn sure you have a long breaker bar and a long cheater pipe before you even attempt this! It's still gonna suck.
