Installing the stock Intel LGA 1700 CPU cooler is pretty easy to do but is not without a few gotchas and some creaking metal and a bit of brute force. The same can be said for removal, so watch the video and hopefully it will give you the confidence to install or remove the stock cooler or maybe even upgrade.

@@rach_bot imma guess you already solved it, but I have literally just done this installation on a b660m-a d4. Was having problems, until: - got the cooler out - set the pins on the counterclockwise position - manually take the central thingamajig that pushes out on the halves of the pin (the one that makes sure the cooler doesn't get out) out - set the pins in the clockwise position - install as shown in video

@@chelarestelardude it’s been two months but I’m having this problem rn. What do u mean with taking the little things out “manually”? You mean grabbing them from the back of the board instead of pushing? I’ll be really glad if u can answer me and explain what do u mean. I’m getting 100c on every game, I think it’s a bad contact or something. Thanks!

What are you talking about? Just bought an AMD CPU and by far the worst thing about it is having to screw it in while holding the damn backplate, and never knowing if it's tight enough/properly in place. Why the hell should I have to go to the back of the MB anyway? The Intel system I had before was WAY better. 4 clicks and you're done.

My CPU is now at 99 degrees all the time :( but thank you SO much for actually going through how to reset the pins. The Intel website didnt have any details on this. Thanks for the informative video Mike - I just got a new I5 LGA1700 and was having trouble with the stock fan, but this showed me clearly what to do, and it's all installed and ready to go now 👍 It would have been easier if the 2 picture installation instruction from Intel showed clearly that the pins should be in the clockwise position in order to click them down, with mine they were all in the undone position out of the box!

I'm glad Intel changed the stock cooler, it's not great but does it's job and looks a bit better now. I installed the stock cooler on a 12100f and the temps were very good it was 55c even at full load not bad for a stock cooler and did the job. I would look at the ID-COOLING SE-214-XT aftermarket cooler as well as it's only £20 on Amazon UK and is compatible with LGA 1700 out of the box and even has an ARGB fan too would be perfect fit upto Intel 12400.

Oh well heck.. the manual with the CPU and Fan doesn't make it clear the pins need to be to the right to engage. Now in hindsight ,the diagram I am looking a shows turn right THEN use a screwdriver turning right to finish the install... strange... Intel .. why?

With the older pin style (and maybe these when less fresh), removal was 3 step. 1. Turn the tops 90 degrees anticlockwise to unlatch 2. Pull each pin up 3. Then lift the cooler, with the pins pulled up, it can be twisted slightly to break solidified paste PS. if you have to replace a lot (and why would you bother testing pastes on a stock cooler), you may be able to reduce wear on the pins by pushing them through in the unlatched (anticlockwise) state and then turning while holding
