When i was opening the pins i accidentaly touched my motherboard with my screwdriver. I figured it was nothing and moved on, there comes the booting up part. Turns on for a good 5 seconds, then shuts off, and when i tell you my heart sank then ooh it did, but luckily i decided to check if all the cables were connected nicely, seemed right but still pushed them all down just in case. Pc turned on like nothing. Honestly a great tutorial, straight to the point. I also will be answering some questions in the comments (what worked for me) 1. What do you use to wipe the old thermal paste? -- I personally used toilet paper😂 worked fine. I also used a small spatela that came with the thermal paste to smear it. I didnt take the motherboard out of the case. (somebody asked if they should) This was my first ever experience doing something to my pc besides cleaning it and reinstalling windows on a usb. (first ever windows install was stressful) I haven't tested the performance yet to see if it is better after the new paste but i will try to remember and edit the comment. Also if you havent cleaned the pc in a while i recommend you clean the fan a little since u already have it out. Thanks for the tutorial and goodluck to all the people following it!

Thanks alot for the tips! I am about to clean out mine for the first time (I bought my PC second hand off the person that built it); I was having problems with the CPU overheating and figured it was due a clean as its been 4 years since I purchased it. I have removed the hard drives and graphics card to get to the motherboard and I'm leaving the CPU cleanup till last. All the other fans are so dusty so I'm assuming my CPU fan will be just as dirty hahaha

@lulutat261 Жыл бұрын
Typically no, your cpu should be attached to the motherboard and shouldn't need to remove your motherboard in the process of changing the thermal paste. Most cases will open up and allow you to access your cpu cooler and replace the thermal paste.

The best way to apply thermal paste is in an “X” shape. This point in the middle does not spread across the entire cpu. It would be interesting if you made a video showing these variations. Thanks!
@daniell186911 ай бұрын
i've read the exact opposite. a pea sized dab in the middle will spread evenly out when correct pressure applied and not allow for any air bubbles like an X shape would
@gemzuchiru376010 ай бұрын
it doesnt matter tbh as when the CPU heats up it should help the paste spread out a bit more plus whatever was squished into shape by the heatsink@@daniell1869
@set76182 ай бұрын

when i press down on the pins they wont click into place, i really dont want to have to remove my motherboard after putting it all together, how hard should i press? I dont want to break anything!!!
@levo571Ай бұрын
Hi, i dont know if you solved the problem but first when you aligned the cooler, dont directly press to column thing they show in the video. Instead apply pressure to a dented area right beside the column thing and when you flip the motherboard, there should be colorless clamps sticking out. After that, lock those by pressing the column thing, your cooler should be locked

For some reason I can't remove the cpu fan at all. I followed your steps and loosened the "pins" and can lift the fan up like a centimeter. But then stops and I'm afraid to pull on it. Feels like its stuck to the motherboard. Help!

Even after lostening the pins, if you are able to lift it a bit. You may need to give it an extra little pull to get the clips off.

I read that you should let the cpu and cooler dry for a few hours after cleaning them with some iso? Is that true? Seems dry to me and I want to get going on slapping this back together.
@nazillohana71975 ай бұрын
Depends on the alcohol concentration in your substance, its 70%ish then you should let it dry out for a few hours cleaning the old thermal pad otherwise if it's 90%+ then few mins will do just fine

Wow! They've never improved on this. /SMH/ The worst cooler design in the history of cooler designs- and that includes everything. Even a Model T Ford has a better cooler design. This is so "scratchy" and "ghetto", mistakes are frequent! I can't recall how many people have broken these or the countless amounts of damage was caused cause of these clunky mechanisms over the past 2 decades. Just abysmal really. I'll send my clients to this video so they can be prepared to install this f*er.
