@HsingSun2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your video. Can I use a different or better plywood than OSB panel for the roof?
@Chrdiy2 жыл бұрын
Well you can use whatever you want but you have to remember any kind of plywood is multiple laminate sheets glued together and your subject to exterior weather conditions like moisture. So usually when you use the OSB the skin or laminate side which is coated faces the bottom. The dry side or unlaminated side faces up and then the roof gets installed directly to that. So the practical usefulness of OSB is that there's no way for it to delaminate as the roof coats the top and the bottom which is exposed to any type of atmosphere or moisture has a protective skin coating on it. But you can still use plywood if you think at this point it's a better product
@georgebrewer76504 жыл бұрын
I appreciate all of your videos and you have been very responsive to people's question! Very professional! I see that you will run the OSB all the way up to the existing roof. What is the process for dealing with the transition? I understand you are going to use Roll roofing and metal flashing over the transition area, but I was hoping you could elaborate on how the material is installed. For example is the metal first or the roll roofing?
@Chrdiy4 жыл бұрын
I usually run two parts. Felt up to and under the shingle of the of the roof that's being tied into. Then I put minimum 12in wide strip of flashing horizontally centering 6 in across the deck scene where it ends at the roof tie in. This prevents sinking or settling of the new roof to be installed. Then install your roof membrane all the way up slightly under the tie in existing roof. Then I run additional flashing 24 in horizontally. Roughly 16 in up under the shingle of an existing house at approximately 8 in overlapping the new membrane roof to the shed style roof no fasteners exposed

@Chrdiy4 жыл бұрын
Field miter each rafter to the pitch of the existing roof establishing the pitch on your shed style roof. Flat receiver board must be placed attached to the existing Rafters of the house. Then each new rafter for the overhang roof is that attach to that using Taylor's and Simpson strong tie Hardware. If you're unfamiliar with this you will definitely need the expertise of a carpenter

I have 4 Amish Men that are going to put a new roof on my old garage including new trusses. It's approximately 600 square feet and want to know what thickness OSB is best for sheathing and are the little spacers recommended. This job starts in Mid July
@Chrdiy4 жыл бұрын
Spacer clips are a must have between each joist and all edges. If joist spacing is 16" on center you can use 7 16th isb or 3/4. If jkist are spaced 24" o.c. you can only use 3/4". Good luck

@Chrdiy4 жыл бұрын
Not sure about Georgia how ever OSB manufacturers make it as 7/16 of an inch and 3/4 of an inch. Typical uses where rafters are centered at 16 inch spacing 7/16 is acceptable or you could use the heavy or board at 3/4 inch. We are rafter spans or 24 inch Center on older homes you must use the 3/4 inch. Always check with your local code enforcement officials to verify your plans prior to

Never found the need to angle edge. Not furniture. Ply or osb. Small fap is acceptable as long as one surface does not project past the other creating a shelf like lip. Set so each panl above and below touches one another at the underside along with being completely flush to the rafters
