How To Install & Play Every Command & Conquer Game + Thank You

Updated recommended guides; The Ultimate Collection on Origin ( www.origin.com/gbr/en-us/store/command-and-conquer/command-and-conquer-the-ultimate-collection ) contains every C&C game, excluding the recent Remasters (the Remasters are available on Steam and Origin). Just make certain you follow these guides ( cnc.community/ ) for each game to make sure you set them up correctly, or you may run into problems. The first three games have been released by EA as freeware, and these freeware versions come prepatched with fan patches, and so are preferable to the ones downloaded from Origin. If you enjoy Tib Dawn and RA1, these two games have had recent Remasters which are the best way to play those games. Oh, make sure to save regularly, particularly if you're starting with Tib Dawn. We're talking old school DOS-era level design, so don't be afraid to look up walkthroughs if you need! Best way to play each C&C game (imo); Command & Conquer (Tiberian Dawn) * freeware version ( cnc.community/tiberian-dawn/how-to-play ) for the original, or better yet the Remastered Collection on Steam Red Alert * freeware version ( cnc.community/red-alert/how-to-play ) for the original, or better yet the Remastered Collection on Steam Tiberian Sun + Firestorm * freeware version ( cnc.community/tiberian-sun/how-to-play ) Red Alert 2 + Yuri's Revenge * The Ultimate Collection + CnCNet YR Launcher Renegade (this one is a first-person shooter, set during Tib Dawn. Save regularly!) * The Ultimate Collection + Tiberian Technologies' Scripts Generals + Zero Hour * The Ultimate Collection + GenTool (follow the above guide closely) C&C3: Tiberium Wars + Kane's Wrath / Red Alert 3 + Uprising * Either the Steam versions or The Ultimate Collection, there's not much in it. The main difference other than platform is that TUC versions of these games require either Bibber's or Medstar's fixed Origin launchers ( www.moddb.com/games/cc-generals/downloads/new-fixed-ultimate-collection-launchers-v101 ) if you want to use mods or launch arguments. C&C4: Tiberian Twilight * Don't worry about this one, it's not good Dune II (abandonware) * While the original can be played on DOSBox, I'd recommend Dune Dynasty ( dunedynasty.sourceforge.net/ ) It has a very faithful reimplementation of the original engine, with the addition of some modern controls like selecting multiple units at once. The Dune series is abandonware, make sure to follow the installation guide to find the correct version. To set resolution and scaling and all sorts of settings not shown in-game, go to Users > (user) > AppData > Roaming > DuneDynasty > dunedynasty.cfg, and make a copy first. * Full Dune Dynasty installation guide by Nyerguds, including the music packs ( forum.dune2k.com/topic/24316-dune-dynasty/page/12/#comment-391240 ) Dune 2000 (abandonware) * Gruntmods Edition ( gruntmods.com/dune_2000_gruntmods_edition/ ), Run Dune2000Config.exe for extra options Emperor: Battle for Dune (abandonware) * Tricky to get running, check this thread ( www.reddit.com/r/commandandconquer/comments/kkk9nn/atreides_military_base_on_caladan_emperor_bfd/gh3ah13/?context=3 ) For Tib Dawn (freeware version), RA1 (freeware version), Tib Sun (freeware version) and RA2/Yuri's (CnCNet Launcher installed), use the config.exe or CnCNetYRLauncher.exe in each of the games' directories to set resolution, and to change renderer if you encounter graphical issues, black screens or menu bugs. Renegade also has a config.exe for setting resolution.

Previous pinned comment copy-paste: Just got a spate of comments (i.imgur.com/fMlaM6d.png) all at the same time from blank channels all saying "don't trust scam YT videos, only get this game from Gamecrook". DO NOT get these games from Gamecrook or any other pirate sites. All C&C games from Tib Wars onwards are available on Steam. ALL C&C games are available on Origin (currently the only official digital source for RA2, Ren and Gen), and the first three games have been released by EA as legal freeware and are available prepatched by fans. The only downloads you should trust for these games are the patched versions direct from trusted fan sites, NOT from dodgy piracy sites, and certainly not from ones that have to resort to spamming YT comments with fake accounts to advertise. CnCnet and C&C Community (cnc.community/) are two up-to-date trusted fan sites curated by public figures in the C&C community. These sites can be trusted. I can also vouch for C&C Community since I helped a little with that one (the header videos). I've used downloads on both sites myself and I'm happy to say they are reliable and are two of the best resources in the C&C community. If you see comments saying "don't trust this video! get this game from [website]", it's a scam. The Dune games are in the unfortunate position of being unavailable in any official capacity and so are considered abandonware. The GruntMods Edition of Dune2000 appears well-trusted as the de facto best place to get it, but for the others please be discerning.

I had recently heard of the remaster news (sidenote:I'm 32) and floods of nostalgia of age 12 me playing Tiberian Sun prompted me to check for where i could find the classics (TS being one of my favourites) and was disappointed I couldn't find them on steam (recently got a new pc after years of not owning one having started pc gaming way before i owned a console this is my current default store to browse). Then I spotted your recent video on the fall of C&C and was thrilled to hear you have this video on the best ways to get these gems back in players hands. I grew up with C&C since the very beginning. It's a big part of my gaming childhood, I remember riding home from the store in '95, looking at the back of the box excited for the gameplay. I remember the hours that my friend and I took turns playing the game on my parents office PC. I remember that being able to play as NOD blew me away because you got to experience both perspectives. Red Alert falls into the same boat. Played it since the beginning, and I remember that I got my dad playing it, who by the way was not a gamer in any sense of the word but would be up late at night yelling at his medium tanks to fire at the enemy xD. Rivals takes a giant shit on these memories.

I have had 2 games that experienced this kind of situation, command and conquer and galaxy on fire alliances. They are both my childhood game and i have lost both games because my laptop broke down a few years ago and GOFA was shutdown by fishlabs. I read on a snippet of a screenshot for a Preview of Age of Empires 2, it was largely hailed as "another C&C clone"...AoE2... Take that in for a second. Command and Conquer was such a Titan that ANY RTS that came out was deemed a C&C clone... that being said, the statement "C&C will never die" is a fucking bulletproof statement. I know of no other community that reinforces the legacy of a game better than C&C and again, the Statement C&C will never die and it belongs to the fans? Absolutely nothing but the truth there. Thank you for making this Stefan :D I had no idea you could get a legal patched version of Tib Sun. CNC Ultimate Collection really buggered the port for Tib Sun. I cant even run the main menu Ahahahah :D Im glad the loyal fanbase is still here. Had a good laugh playing RA3 Coop with a friend of mine not to long ago and hes totally new to the series. :D And you're right. CNC now belongs to the fans, and we will continue to share our experiences with each other for many years to come :)

Its so much fun when it works :D I only ever got to play the first GDI, Nod mission. Then the game would crash loading the FMV. But now it works and I can see why people love it. Always found it bizarre how Tib Dawn worked fine on a Windows 10 PC, yet Tib Sun doesnt. Glad this fixed it

5:25 OpenRA also has a beta version of Tiberian Sun, now. It works reasonably well. And more RA1 story missions have been added recently. Development is definitely on-going. Would 100% recommend OpenRA.

Hey mate! I'm cautiously optimistic regarding the Remasters. I can't defend EA, I was quite a vocal detractor when Rivals was announced, but I do have to say that every move EA has made so far with the Remaster project have been promising. Announcing a game before pre-production had even begun, I'm not sure if there's a precedent for this in gaming, at least not for a company this big. My biggest wish was for the return of Frank K, and with him now confirmed, I'm very much looking forward to the Remasters. Even if they don't pan out that well, we at least get some sweet new music! I really hope the Remasters are handled well, and with the recent report of a community advisory panel, I'm closer to optimistic than cautiously optimistic. It's still EA, but what we've heard so far has been promising. Thank you so much for checking out the channel! I've noticed your name a few times in comments!

Dune Dynasty is a much more accurate clone of Dune 2 than Dune Legacy. It is based upon OpenDune, a at least 99% accurate clone of Dune 2 made by reverse engineering the original game. Dune Dynasty offers modern convinces like a C&C style interface and selecting multiple units in addition to authentic gameplay. By the way CnCNet is the easiest way to play any of the game it supports online. Just launch the client, type in a nick and you're done. Don't forget if you prefer the DOS versions of C&C and RA1 they work in DOSBox and isos are available online. Otherwise I may be releasing something in the future to play those easily too.

Unfortunately RA2 and YR are not legally available as freeware. EA released TD, RA1 and TS as freeware, so you can get the full games there, but never the later games. cncnet offers patches for online multiplayer, but you'll still need the full game from a legal source first, they can't give you the game itself.

Generals is only available digtally as part of The Ultimate Collection on Origin (not sold separately unfortunately), and since Windows 10 doesn't like old disc DRM this is probably the best way to play. Generals is kind of old and has a few compatability problems with new PCs, so make sure you follow this guide to help with set up: cnc.community/generals/how-to-play

Hey! Unfortunately I'm not a big enough PC guy to be able to recommend any specs or anything of the sort. However, all the 2D games should run fine on pretty much any laptop you can buy. Ren and Gen likewise shouldn't pose much of an issue. The most strenuous ones are the EALA games, but my mid-range laptop is able to run them at full settings without dropping frames, no trouble. They seem to be pretty well optimised for weaker machines. I remember the old family Windows XP and a Vista laptop had difficulties running them back when they launched, but a modern low-end laptop should be fine. Can't speak for Total War though, one of my computers had issues running Shogun 2. At a guess if you can find something that can run Total War, it should run any C&C.

Ah okay! So these old games were not designed for large monitors, they play best at lower resolutions, ideally you don't want to play the 2D games at a res higher than 1280x720. Basically the zoom is tied to the res. For TD and RA1, in the config.exe you can set the display res to the same as your monitor, and the game res to say half of that, and the game will handle scaling for oyu. For TS, RA2 and YR, if you're on Windows 10, I would recommend you use the tsconfig.exe and YR CnCNet Launcher.exe to set the games to run in windowed mode, then use a little program on Steam called Lossless Scaling. It's about £4 but it has a free demo, it'll latch onto any window, stretch it to full screen with sharp scaling rather than blurry scaling. Modern GPUs also support this option natively but Lossless Scaling also slows your mouse so it moves at the same speed as normal. Just set the in-game resolution to a factor (half, one third etc) of your display resolution to achieve integer scaling

There are loads of great mods out there, C&C fans are incredible and talented people, but there's no way I could mention them all. Mentioning one would lead to asking why I didn't mention another, so I stuck to the official releases, and ORA for being a modern reimplementation rather than a mod. Where other than Steam to get C&C3 and Kane's Wrath? Steam is probably you best choice but if you don't use Steam, you can get them in the Ultimate Collection from Origin. This includes all the main games, but Origin blocks mods and command line arguments, such as running the game windowed. Other than that, you can try tracking down a physical disc.

1. For Command & Conquer (the first one), Red Alert 1 and Tiberian Sun, don't install the Origin versions. You're best off getting the pre-patched freeware versions from CnCNet.org 2. Check out the set up guide at cncnz.com/features/technical-support-help-guides/ it covers all the games in a lot of detail. 3. Install the fixed Origin launchers from here: www.reddit.com/r/commandandconquer/comments/eqd9f1/bibbers_fixed_launchers_perm_link_for_you_amazing/ Following CNCNZ, you should now have config .exes in the game directory for the Westwood games (for RA2 it's the YR CnCNet client launcher). These will allow you to set resolution, andif you have graphical issues you can use these tools to change renderer until you find one that works. I've been planning on doing updated detailed setup videos on all this at some point for each game, I don't think I was detailed enough in this one. Hopefully this should help!

I've got CnC The First Decade, physical copy. I can run all the games from Tiberian Sun / Red Alert 2 up to Generals - Red Alert 3 and Tiberian War I have on Steam. I do have issues with Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert. Graphics problems mostly. Any tips for sorting those out? Or should I just get the ones off CnC.net?

I suggest just grabbing TD and RA1 off CnCNet as they come prepatched. Same for TS, but if you have no issues with that probably no need. Any further issues, Google 'cncnz tech', first result should be a tech support directory

I can't download Red Alert 1 from the link in the description. I try to follow the steps but during the installation ( which from some reason takes ages although I have quite a fast internet connection ) it crashes mid way through, and then I have to start the installation from the beginning, it goes a little further up then crashes again and it's still a long way before completion. Does anyone know what's up with that ?

I've been meaning to try KKND, Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander for a while, and this sounds like the perfect excuse!

Must say.. I was never familiar with Tiberian side of the story. I used to play Red Alert 1 and 2 / original Command and Conquer. It's like whole new universe of C&C is out there that I haven't touched yet.

Yes, all of these links are trusted by the community, CnCNet and C&C Community are well known and established community sites, we know the people behind all of them, including the community patches. The three freeware games have been officially released by EA as such, it's not piracy, it's entirely above board The only games I would say you have to be a bit more discerning over are where you source Dune II and Emperor: Battle for Dune from since those games are abandonware. Dune 2000's Gruntmods Edition appears trusted enough by the community, and that's the version I use myself.

So first thing you're going to need this guide, it covers every C&C game; cncnz.com/features/technical-support-help-guides/ For C&C ( the first one), RA1 and Tib Sun, the best way to play is with the fan-patched versions. Those games have legally been released by EA as freeware. You can get them here: cncnet.org/ Make sure you download the full game, not just multiplayer. For Command & Conquer (Tiberian Dawn): nyerguds.arsaneus-design.com/cnc95upd/cc95p106/ Download "Complete No CD Installation Pack", the English videos pack, and optionally the Savegame packs (esentially mission select). Install No CD, then install the videos, then drop the saves (they look like savegame.123) into the install directory. For Red Alert: cncnet.org/red-alert#download select Full Game (Windows). In the installer, check the boxes for "Full web installation" and "Install CD 2" For Tiberian Sun: cnc-comm.com/tiberian-sun/downloads/the-game/installer These are the best ways to play those games. Once installed, go to the game directories and find the config.exe promgrams (CCConfig, RedAlertConfig, tsconfig) and run them. These allow you to set certain settings, like the resolution. With C&C and RA1, you can set a game resolution and a stretch resolution, so you could set stretch to be your monitor size and game res to be half that size, and it'll double the pixels if you use nearest neighbour scaling. If you have problems with black screen or any visual issues, try using these config programs to set a different renderer. And make sure to save your game before you Alt Tab, just in case. For the rest of the games, install them via Origin, but follow very closely the guide at the top from CNCNZ. MAKE CERTAIN to disable Origin In-Game/cloud saves in game properties, and maybe turn off origin's auto updates. Install Bibber's Launchers for each game, link to and instructions for them are in each game's guide on CNCNZ. Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge will need the CnCNet YR client. It's supposed to be for multiplayer, but it helps resolve issues for single player in both game. You can use this to change renderer and resolution, if you have any issues with black screen try a different renderer. Also the main menu for Yuri's uses a different resolution to the actual game, the game uses the resolution you set, but the menu does its own thing: cncnet.org/yuris-revenge The config files for RA2 and Yrui's are ra2.ini and ra2md.ini Renegade needs Tib Technologies' Scripts client installer, you might not be able to set the resolution without it: www.tiberiantechnologies.org/downloads The config program for Renegade is wwconfig.exe If you have problems with Generals and Zero Hour, the CNCNZ guide has links to GenTool, which offers some improvements. Generals works fine on my Win10 PC, except it hard crashes when I quit the game causing me to need to reboot. If this happens to you, instead of quitting normally, CTRL ALT DEL and end the task instead. The rest of the 3D games should be fine just with Bibber's Launchers. If you're also interested in trying otu C&C's sister series Dune, the license of those games has been in limbo for years, so this is kind of the only way you can; Dune II is best played via Dune Dynasty, though you'll need to find a copy of the full game online. Follow the guide here: dunedynasty.sourceforge.net/ The config file for resolution will be here: C:\users obody\Application Data\Dune Dynasty\dunedynasty.cfg For Dune 2000: gruntmods.com/dune_2000_gruntmods_edition/ For Emperor: Battle for Dune, you'll need the isos for each disc, as well as the extra downloads especially no cd. IIRC mount disc 1 in a program like PowerISO and run setup. You may need the installer fix instead, follow the instructions in the txt. After it's installed, run the patch, and replace the game.exe with the one from No CD and hopefully tou should be good, but Emperor is a pain to get running. One final thing; integer or nearest neighbour scaling. The pixel-based games don't have a zoom, so setting the reolution too high makes it hard to see stuff. Setting the res lower than your monitor means the games get stretched blurrily. First, check if your GPU supports integer scaling, I know recent Nvidia GPUs do and I've heard AMD supports it as well, look into it for your GPU. Your other option if you're on Windows 10 (doesn't support 7) is a program on Steam called Lossless Scaling. Set the games to run in windowed (either in the config .ini or .exe, or by adding -win to the end of the shortcut path) and you can scale the game up to full screen by doubling or tripling the pixels. Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert 1 already support this stuff natively by setting the stretch resolution to your native, and game resolution to a factor of the stretch res. Hope this helps! If you have problems, I think r/commandandconquer on reddit is usually happy to help, lot of big C&C nerds there who know their stuff! I know this is a lot of detail, I'm wondering if it's worth doing a video on this stuff

I don't care if it's illegal. EA tried to kill it, even they managed to persuade Petroglyph however I don't credit EA to be involved with the Tiberian Dawn remaster. If you've tried everything in the CNCNZ tech support directory (cncnz.com/features/technical-support-help-guides/), I would suggest making a post on r/commandandconquer on reddit and detailing what you've tried so far, as well as your OS version and where you're playing the games from (ie Origin donload, original disc, First Decade disc etc) Quick sanity checks before you do: try running the games as an administrator and in Windows XP compatibility mode
