So I had ACW Motorsport plastics make me some made-to-order polycarbonate windows for the BTCC Supertouring Renault Laguna Project! Here's how to install them at home!

Here in Australia, for production rally cars the fronts are supposed to be removable without tools, I gather you don't have that issue. Trying to think of a good, tidy way to fit them.

what state is that for?
@G-force_Motorsport9 ай бұрын
@lachlancashion3200 all states. It's a MA/FIA safety thing, not a state reg. Realistically they are mostly just bolted in at the base, and can still be kicked out, that's what I did( 2 m6 bolts, not kicked it out yet...)

Hi mate- great job! Quick question; would it not be easier to prehaps use pop rivets to hold the PC in place? And therefore only drill through the frame itself/one wall?
@ChrisTheCarBuilder2 жыл бұрын
It would - if the window was up against a metal flat. In this case as I attempted to explain when talking about using a stand-off bolt, with this specific car door shape I didn't have anywhere to place the window that'd sit flush. The rear window and rear quarter windows I could definitely bond in or use rivets, yes! Thanks for your interest mate

Do the sliding hatch lock from the inside. Or can you only store car in garage not on road for security reasons? Thanks

From the inside mate

Hey Mate, great job and thanks for explaining, Im about to do it myself as Im in Australia and the shipping from the UK is quite significant so it works out to be cheaper to get it cut by someone local. Just a question though, does it scratch easily or is there some type of protective film over it? Just thinking with the rallys, they tend to get all sorts of stuff flicked at them and then scrubed with a brush during washing.
@ChrisTheCarBuilder Жыл бұрын
They do scratch fairly easy over time mate, you'd probably want to change them every couple of years depending on how much you use them!

@@ChrisTheCarBuilder thanks mate, I might make up the templates myself then

I'm in the process of doing mine, and stuck with the fact that (at least for a PRC car) they are supposed to be removable without tools. "13.12 (f) Each replacement polycarbonate front driver and passenger door window must be able to be removed both internally and externally without tools in an emergency situation;"

@@G-force_Motorsport that's going to make it hard, even the MSport ones are not like that, maybe if they are 3mm you could push it out?
@G-force_Motorsport Жыл бұрын
@@troyd-motorsport9933 Thanks, and interesting the MSport cars aren't like that, will have to have a look at our top level cars like the Bates AP4 yaris, and their regs. Maybe no one does, despite it being in the regs. Min thickness is 3.8mm though. In theroy even with 4mm you could kick them in (or out) I suppose.

it looks so cool, is it possible to do some sponsorship?

How many millimeters is the thickness of the polycarbonate?
@aaron40564 ай бұрын
4mm

As above mate. You can get away with 3mm but 4 is best

Hello, where you find Macrolon at Laguna's window size?
@ChrisTheCarBuilder2 жыл бұрын
Lord knows, I know you can get 4mm sheets polycarbonate on eBay for around £180 for as much as you need but that's without cuts or sliders. From memory I think for the fronts you need 1000mm x 750mm and rears 750mm x 500mm but definitely worth measuring for yourself
@cyrilmarti54872 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisTheCarBuilder OK thanks. You have cut after at the right size?
@ChrisTheCarBuilder2 жыл бұрын
I had ACW make them for me but you can cut it out yourself if you want
@cyrilmarti54872 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisTheCarBuilderThanks. This is not 4mm you use on Laguna? He seems not very hard.
@ChrisTheCarBuilder2 жыл бұрын
It's 4mm FIA approved polycarbonate, same on all the racecars in the word
