How to Install Portable AC in a Slide Door - Step by Step

How to install a Dreo single hose portable AC in a slide door. Easy step by step instructions any DIY person can follow to get their portable air conditioner up and running. In this video I do a "real life" portable A/C installation without buying too many extra props and parts, using just as much things as normal person would have to work with. Thank you for this video - I just bought a portable AC unit and have 74 inch sliding door that I wanted to use it on. I ordered a few sliding door adapters from Amazon but none of them worked. I could not get the hose to fit into the part all sizes. I followed your instructions with some cardboard foam I had laying around from my kids school projects. Followed your steps and was able to construct the sliding door unit. It's not perfect but it's working and I didn't have to go out and spend any money for parts.

Thx for doing this, filming it and sharing it with us. If you have creepy crawlers outside your patio door, you may want to plug any gaps. If I don't plug the gaps around my patio doors, my house gets invaded. I have nothing installed in my patio doors and there are gaps.

Hi Jay. This install is great for renters, but I think that if I’m the owner and reasonably sure that this unit (or similar) will suit my cooling needs, I think that I’d be cutting a hole in the exterior wall and making something a little more permanent. I’m sure that in HI, you probably need it year round . Great to hear from you, stay well.👍

Does this make a sliding glass 8:06 door less secure for burglary or home invasion

Having a rod in the slide door track is usually more than enough to make it secure. Most burglars wouldn't be able to squeeze through the gap made by the panels. But of course the most secure method would be to take out the panels and close the door. Since you wouldn't need to actually take apart every panel but would take it out as a whole, it actually doesn't take long to do so.

@@WordofAdviceTV better to leave it installed as a semi permanent setup as constant flexing and stretching of the hose will cause it to eventually break and most portable AC components aren't that durable and it's not that easy to get replacement parts.

The best place would be to actually learn on the job. Learn as much as you can online and then try to get hired by someone who will be willing to teach you all this hands on. As for me, I went to a technical college for 2 years to learn HVAC. School is always an option too.

I’m getting a hose-in-hose one (which has two hoses inside of one larger one) and the exhaust connector is fitted into a window slide panel that’s only 46” long and it is wider than anything I can find for the universal kits on amazon and the manufacturers doesn’t seem to have extra panels. It’s 9.75” wide instead of like 6.5”. And it’s hard to find the width spec on these things incredibly. Any thoughts on any kits for these wider hose-in-hose versions?

If you are willing to tackle this project, here is the best option in my opinion. Buy a sheet of plywood, cut it to length, and cut out the hole for the hose using the hole in the panels as a template. I would also get some spray paint and paint the plywood white so it looks nice. This is the most solid and durable solution.

In this particular house there was no good place to put it. Instead of windows, there's just a bunch of slide doors. I am assuming most people would rather put it in a window but if that's not an option, a slide door will have to work.
