I think the hardest thing for me was the network config. I ended up just plugging it into Port 1 the router like I intended to anyway. So I can't say your video got me over this 5 hour hump but I can say this was clearly explained and I'll be returning to it. Thanks!

Thanks to this video, I know how to change the node name! Thank You! Who knew that changing the fqdn would change the node name. I have found that knowhere else but your video! That is why there are so many people asking how to change the node name to add to a cluster, because every new install defaults to pve as the node name. I had my first node, named pve, then installed another server and it was also named pve, so I had to change that name the hard way.
@BoDiddly3 ай бұрын
FYI, I normally ignore the fqdn when I install something because I don't use it and it has no effect on anything.

Thank you!! I'm moving from having my dedicated server to run Plesk to using proxmox8 to have a Plesk VM and separate VMs for seedbox, nextcloud, etc. I think this will make things easier, especially with snapshot backups.

The stated goal was to move from Enterprise to Community packages. Why did you comment out Ceph? Just not using it? Or, does it interfere with community packages?
@distrodomain8 ай бұрын
The Ceph repo there is the enterprise supported packages, by enabling the general community packages that includes the community version of ceph, thank you for watching! :)

I mainly work with HP Proliant servers & configure either RAID 1 or 5 depending on the goals/needs of the project. I wanted to ask if there's any danger in using the entire hard disk capacity like in VMWare ESXi deployments when installing the Proxmox operating system? Or can I reserve one hard disk slot for the O.S. & use the rest (configured with RAID) for the installation & configuration of virtual machines?
@distrodomain7 ай бұрын
The entire disk should be good enough for 1 proxmox node if you are planning on having multiple nodes and using ceph I would sugest having 1 ssd for the OS and a dedicated storage of the same type and capacity for the ceph cluster that will hold the vm disks. thank you for watching! :)

I wish you would of stared from how to prep the computer before install
@distrodomain7 ай бұрын
For the preparation you really don't need much you can install proxmox on pretty much anything, you only need to make sure that you enable virtualization in your bios SVM for amd and vt-d for intel. thank you for watching! :)

Host disk for proxmox can be a HDD 256g or more size is needed? And other 8T for VM and 1T ssd for containers? Or what is the recomendation? Raid 1 for boot proxmox? 🙏🙏
@distrodomain Жыл бұрын
It depends on what you need, you can have raid1 for boot drive if you want redundacy, boot drive requierments are very low, 128g-256g ssd should be good, vms and containers can run on the same storage so you can have a 4tb ssd for vms and containers, or a regular 8tb, if you want fault tolerance and redundancy, check out my video on proxmox clustering. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6uQn4uiptSpgqs

HI, I immediately are in problem when changing directory by/to "cd /ect/apt/sources.list.d/" with PVE 8.2.2 and the "ls -l" says total 0. Is this my error or due to PVE 8.2.2?

im starting this project and im wanting to virtualize my firewall and my truenas i have a 2.5g 4 port nic and i was going to get a 10g nic but i dont know if i would have enough space since im wanting to put my old 1080 ti for gpu pass through? and im using a b550 msi tomhawk board. i was told i need to get a hba card? or a raid card but im lost in that subject? also dont know what storage setup i should do
@distrodomain Жыл бұрын
For truenas having a hba pcie card is recommended that way you can passthough the entier controller to the truenas vm, if you are using sata harddrives you can get something ASM1166 6 port adapter, this one is only pcie x1, so you'll have 2 pcie x16 slots left for you nic and gpu. Thanks for watching!

@distrodomain9 ай бұрын
You don't have this option at all in the other sections or just in here, what type of storagae do you have for your procmox installation, qcow2 or raw are also good options, for the storage, thank you for watching! :)

Is this bare metal setup? No os host?
@distrodomain7 ай бұрын
By using the proxmox iso file you are installing the custom os from proxmox which is based on Debian, basically a modified version of Debian, than you for watching !
