Depends if you want to add more RAM in future then you can use 8+4 or 8+8 but If you dont want more RAM them you can use additional same 4gb ram stick

I guess the keyboard is connected to the back panel of the laptop but you can try without removing the keyboard, if it requires to remove the keyboard then you should remove it. It is completely safe

Yes, it is possible but you have to check compatibility of your motherboard. Some old motherboards don't support more than 8/12 GB ram and they will not show full 16 GB Instead you will see only 8GB ram
