I'm just glad this monitor exists. I wanted something at least comparable to my IPS MiniLED laptop screen in terms of brightness, response time, clarity and consistency, but the expensive high end monitors all still seem to have some caveats right now (especially OLED obviously) which made me not want to invest that much just yet. Cheap monitors of this class without major flaws are extremely hard to find. And where I live now in Indonesia, the AOC is hard to get and twice the price of the Xiaomi, so this monitor was really the only viable choice for me and I haven't been disappointed. This will do at least until there is a significant improvement in monitor tech again. I'm sure eventually we can have our cake and eat it too, i.e. something as good as OLED with clear text and no risk of burn in.

I own this monitor and i must say the local dimming makes a GIANT difference versus a classic IPS with greyish blacks and shit contrast. With LD on, in SDR or HDR content you can get a "close" OLED-like experience and deep blacks without the burn-in. It's a no-brainer, in fact it makes all the non mini led/OLED look like hot-garbage. Its only downside is the lack of way to update the firmware to fix some bugs like the red tint one which thankfully can be fixed in windows ( someone made a thread on reddit ).
@KenTWOuАй бұрын
Mini LED monitors with IPS panels don't have greyish blacks issue when diming zones/HDR is enabled. I was very concerned over that, because of my love of horror games, but have to bought a mini LED IPS monitor instead of mini LED with VA panel, because of price difference/the lack of availability of the latter one, and it really managed to impress me. Playing Alien: Isolation with HDR enabled through Special K was a blast, and that's a horror game with lots of very dark and pitch black areas. The overall picture quality was better than on my previous PVA SDR monitor.

In the UK, the Xiaomi is a fair bit cheaper than the AOC one. I got it for £225 with a discount code (available to anyone) directly from the Xiaomi website. The AOC mini led usually seems to be around £280-ish from Currys/Amazon but barely ever seems to be in stock and I've not personally seen it on sale yet. I'm happy with the Xiaomi considering the price I paid, I do agree not including the option to update the firmware is bad though, and the local dimming not being tied to the mode you're using is a bit annoying but not a deal breaker.

Having getting this G Pro 27i for the equivalent of $290, I feel it offers a pretty decent option for what it is, while AOC doesn't officially carry the 27G3XMN here which sucks. I do agree with the local dimming inconvenience, and generally leave it off, unless I'm gaming or going to consume HDR content. The Monitor also can be seem dim at times, esp besides my productivity IPS screen beside it. But one of the main points about getting this monitor was for the HDR capability, and to my untrained eye, its pretty damn good. Maybe not OLED great, but good enough for around 1/3rd of the price of entry to OLED monitors over here. That being said, I do wonder how does the newish AOC Q27G4XM which is their QD IPS Mini LED model with similar specs in terms of refresh rate, dimming zones, colour coverage and so on (from what I can tell). The monitor I'd received a week ago, shipped with Firmware 1.0.07 as well. Wished they'd offered some way for updating the firmware

I'd love a video showing the demonstrated visual differences between monitor types in terms of dark-level smearing, overshoot, etc. Half of these terms I have no idea what they mean on a day-to-day practical level.

If it’s to good to be true, than it is! Just save up for OLED boys. That input lag in HDR is disguising, the whole point to this monitor is HDR, otherwise we could just buy a cheap ips that doesn’t have this input lag problem. Once you go OLED there is no going back, image is so clear, hdr so perfect with no halo, input lag so small. Also ICC profiles behind a paywall is pathetic Tim. Other reviewers actually mention this and laugh.

I want to buy this monitor for HDR use but I am afraid of the extra input lag the local dimming adds. The input lag feels the same as high frametimes in games? Does a keyboard or mouse command seem to be displayed on the monitor with delay? I want the most responsive experience even in singleplayer games.

Watching this on my G Pro I got last month for $300. Easily the best bang for your buck deal here even before taking MiniLED features into consideration. Can agree with everything you've said in the review, lots of annoying stuff to balance the positives, though I was lucky enough to dodge the red color tint firmware bug. Even with its shortcomings it's still much cheaper than its A-brand competitor models which start at around $400, not $200 around here. I'm usually very sensitive to PWM in monitors but this isn't a problem here unless I'm working in bright background programs for extended periods of time. I don't really use local dimming in SDR content but as someone who's seeing proper HDR for the first time it's so cool, I think overall it's a decent compromise between LED and OLED tech considering how cheap these displays are getting now.
@maxsmnv14 күн бұрын
So, it flickers but it's still comfortable for you?
@Kosmostars14 күн бұрын
@@maxsmnv I mean the reviews say that it does have flicker but I can't perceive it, usually I get headaches from PWM but none here. It does strain my eyes more than my old VA display but somehow I've managed to reduce it by approximately matching the G Pro's color settings to it. I've seen people return G Pro over eye strain before, I wonder if it's a common problem for this monitor.
@maxsmnv14 күн бұрын
@@Kosmostars thx for the answer. That's exactly what i'm trying to understand if it's common problem or not

I have this monitor and the local dimming is mostly a gimmick. It isn't that great and messes up the colors for everything except for video content. So it is only really useful watching video and playing games in HDR. The brightness of the monitor along with the price and general performance is what sells it for me. But don't expect local dimming to work well in most situations.
