Very helpful tutorial, thanks for the tips! My project will require about 800 feet of your fence. There are a few dips and rises in elevation. Not too extreme, but it's not totally flat either. Can you give me some ideas on how to deal with the uneven terrain? Thanks again for the video!

Was your brace wire the wrong way at 6:43, then at 7:35 it was changed? I've done them the way at 6:43 and it will pull the corner post out of the ground as you tighten the brace wire. I always put 2 brace wires on, one each way to hold both posts in the ground.

Is it better to keep the fence off of the ground to prevent rusting of the bottom wire?

For those of you asking about tension on the very top wire and very bottom wire... those two wires (even though they’re being held under SOME tension after all the middle wires are cut and terminated - do tend to loosen a little. What I do is “re-grab” that wire with a single barb wire stretcher and either one come along or a heavy duty cargo strap. The barb wire stretcher is shaped like a small coke bottle and has a ring with a cutout that can be hammered down tight to pinch the wire (before or out in front of the post). Then grab or hook the ratchet strap to it. Connect the other end to either your dummy post, regular or next post, or what ever you’re using to stretch the wire. Then tighten the INDIVIDUAL wire and terminate it to the post. This technique can be used on both wood and metal pipe fence. I had to do that because sometimes the right tool for the job (gripple tool or having two strain boards and gripples or crimps was unavailable. Where there’s a will there’s a way!) 😂

can you tell me what material the fencing is? what is the metal wire made of, and what gauge? I'm wondering what material the fence tool for wrapping wire works for. are there some woven wires that are too tough for it?

These guys not only know what they're doing, but they can explain it clearly, and they have close-ups exactly when needed. However, at 9:50 be prepared to switch from one side of the fence to the other - you may not realize right away that the dummy brace, formerly on your right, is now on your left.

I usually put a staple on the line right before I cut it to tie it off. You do lose a little tension if you do not do it. Good video.

The yanks have a rare way of fencing. I have to wander wonder when is the 2 stands of barb at the top and 1 strand of barb at the bottom? It stops the cattle shoving the noses underneath or leaning their heads over the sheep wire ultimately shortening the lifespan. Plus will you lot learn to twist the bull wire being used in the strainer and post as doing this it will make it more secure and it will stop animals getting trapped between the gap.

I’m using Red Brand fence in my backyard for my dogs. I’m using 4x4 posts and I want the fence it be on the inside of my posts because this looks best. How do you turn a corner on 4x4 post when you’re running fence on inside?!?

I would suggest terminating the fabric in the corner by tying it to the corner post. This will prevent the fence from attempting to pull out of the corner. (Tension on the fabric will run in a straight line from end to end rather than around the inside of the corner). This is more work, but it will result in a better product.

I found it is best to terminate at each corner. Make later changes and repairs easier. Sometimes even terminate in the middle of a long run.

Does the fence go on the inside or outside of post?

Typically, you want the fence fabric/wire to be on the same side of the post as the animals you want to control. That is, if you want to keep cows/horses in a pasture, but the fabric/wire on the inside of the posts. This does a few things: 1. It provides a smoother surface that is less likely to injure the animal 2. It forces the animals to push the fabric through the posts to escape (nearly impossible), instead of merely breaking or loosening the clips or staples used to hold the fabric/wire up.

8 to 10 feet max. I went 12 first time and then had to fix it with more. Same with end posts. Make sure to put end posts in deep or they will pull up.

I love how he breezes past the part where you have to remove all of the staples at every wire intersection in order to remove the verticals. They’re too thick and too small to grab with pliers or snips. Huge pain in the butt. I ended up using an angle grinder to take them off quickly.

Myrrth S While it's brand name is Redbrand it is commonly referred to as redtop fence.The fence depicted in the tutorial is 47 inches high and 330 ft long. There is a white tag tied to the fence roll and the first set of numbers will be 1047. An entire roll typically costs about $135- $150 depending on where you live. If you only need a little then I suggest you go to the Craigslist farm and garden section for your area or your local classified ads as you can sometimes find someone that has replaced their fences and has some of their old fence or a partial roll of the new left over.
