I did this using illustration board and a good quality glue stick to apply the wall paper to them template. I also used glue stick to apply template to the wall. Five years later it is still good as new.

I take a piece of printing paper and push it on a wall and make good creases along the top and sides, etc. Then I cut on my paper cutter ( the one with an arm ). Then I have an exact size to use for whatever I am applying to the wall. I always use diluted white glue for wallpaper paste, it slides a bit for adjustment. And sometimes I use a glue stick.
@decoratesmall
@decoratesmall 10 ай бұрын
Doesn't the diluted glue wet the paper too much? I would think that would make it buckle.
@kimberlyboydwolfe1956
@kimberlyboydwolfe1956 10 ай бұрын
@@decoratesmall I don't dilute it much, ( I mix in a small bowI ) paint it on the paper with a sponge brush, then apply to the wall. I use a rag to push it to the wall and get the bubbles out. I have used dollhouse wallpaper, wrapping paper and even fabric, but most are thicker. On occasion I have bubbles, but they shrink as it dries. I have used this application to wooden, cardboard and plastic walls and it has worked okay for me.

I would have put the white side out all around for the same reason you prime the walls before papering. With a pale wall paper the darker side could ‘bleed’ through.

I'm a miniaturist and yes we use this method. I use thin poster board. Looking great!
@KaraBuntin
@KaraBuntin 2 жыл бұрын
Does the posterboard keep its shape or does it get saggy? I was thinking that would be too thin, but I would guess that it doesn't matter if you attach it to the walls.
@Cindyrvianna
@Cindyrvianna 2 жыл бұрын
@@KaraBuntin No, not saggy but not as firm as yours. I've decided that i'm gong to try the mat board. Does it come in different thicknesses? I wire my house with lights, so i need to be able to pull everything out just in case i need to change a wire or light fixture. IS it actually called mat board at the stores?
@decoratesmall
@decoratesmall 2 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, KZbin put this comment in a weird place and I just saw it...Yes, it's called mat board, it's what they use to cut the mats that go around photos when they frame things. They usually sell it in the framing section of the store. It does come in slightly stiffer versions, some you need a mat cutter knife to cut and some you can cut with sturdy scissors.

@@Cindyrvianna I was thinking it would be a good way to access electrical without tearing up the house, but you still need holes in the wall for lights to go through, right? Like wall sconces, and you need to put the window in there. Still, a nice idea for a room box that you want to change out for photos or something so it could be different rooms to display different furniture or decorate for different seasons or something

Rubber cement is the ULTIMATE tool if you want to be able to remove the wallpaper. Do a thin coat on the surface you want to apply it to and let it dry completely. Then do the same with the back of your wallpaper. You can now stick the wallpaper on with a good strong hold and remove it later without the fuss. You’re welcome.

This is exactly what I was looking for!! I am doing a dollhouse in a curio cabinet so I don't really want to wallpaper the curio directly so I will do it the way you did it!!! What a great idea!!! Thank you so much ❤!!!

It works really well if you make sure that the backing board is stiff enough to hold its shape. IF it's too thin it can bend!

This is exactly what i plan to do for both walls AND floors in my big victorian. That way i dont have to wire right now and when i do, i can easily move or fix things later. As well as, of course, being able to redecorate.

Hi I used this idea on a ¹970s arrow dream house. The two sides tape let go of the wooden walls! Sucked but to replace it wasn't hard. I did tape wire lighting in this house because the wood is so thin and would be fairly easy to remove the entire walls to check the power

I plan on doing this for my floors as well so that everything can be removed (especially to access wiring). You mentioned adding moulding; how do you plan on affixing that to the wall so that you can still change it out if/when you need to? That's what I'm trying to decide before moving forward with my project.
@decoratesmall
@decoratesmall 10 ай бұрын
I was just going to glue it in place, then rip it out if I needed to. But if you had some kind of flooring that was thick enough, like thin mat board, you could put the molding in slightly above the floor level and slide the floor under it so that the molding would form a little groove that the floor could slide into, if that makes sense. I don't know if that would work long-term but it's worth a try.
@jojothehobo12345

@@decoratesmall I think that’s a great idea! I suppose woodwork would be durable enough to take off the wallpaper boards if you ever wanted to change the wallpaper and reuse the moulding. Thanks for your reply :)

I like your method! I was looking into a heavy weight chipboard for my dollhouse, not sure how the thickness would compare to the mat board but it’s definitely a lot less expensive. I also wanted to use something that I could switch out.

Maybe plastic would work, or even sheets of metal, then you could attach picture frames with magnets and I think I saw magnetic lights somewhere, but the light was on one side of a wall and the magnet on the other side, so you could move the light around without putting holes in the wall.

I've used double sided tape to hang the wallpaper but I'm not sold on it. I'd like to try another video ide using magnetic tape,,but not sure? Another idea I plan to use/try is paper canvas. I have no idea how it will work so try at your own risk.
