They’re supposed to come out towards the camshaft side. The manual says to drive them to the combustion chamber side 2mm and then back up towards the camshaft side. I tried and it works just fine. Plus the tapered end in the combustion chamber side mushrooms but won’t score the inside because it’s quite a bit smaller than the bore. Good video otherwise

Good technique with the old valve to support the guide and using grease to nurture the guide. did you measure the clearance between the boss head hole and the OD of the guide because if the guide is over sized to much than the boss hole ,the guide could get stuck half way and then you can run into all sorts of trouble.

Actually no I didn't. Didn't think about that. Supertech is pretty good with there parts. The only thing that needed done after was to ream them for the new valves.

How do you know when the valve guide is in far enough? Since you knocked the old ones right through , I take it there is no lip to seat it ?

The new brass guide have a stop lip on them. They go in and out one way.

So it's fine to just push old ones out and new ones in? I see a lot of people say you have to heat the head up to certain temperature before you push old guides out and then later cool down new guides before you push them in or you can crack the heads or have the guides move once the engine gets hot etc.

I've heard that to buy I had no problem one old guide broke on me. But other that that had no problem. Just had to ream them .

It's same as installing bushings; you don't have to heat the outer part and freeze the inside part but it sure does help.

Why didn’t you put the head in the oven or the new guides in dry ice? I am preparing to replace my first set of guides, and I’beating on the head with a hammer seems like a bad idea.
@streetstancecivicgarage Жыл бұрын
It's fine it doesn't hurt the head you don't want to heat an aluminum head it may warp. Just use the tool that is made for it and you will be fine. Only thing is check the diameter of the new guides and mic the inside to make sure. The guide is not to big it can crack the head putting them back in. And use an air hammer putting them back in makes it way easier.

I’m gonna use my hydraulic press. Friend who I trust said that’s how he would do it at his repair shop.

Sorry, you said you need to ream the guides. What exactly is that?
@streetstancecivicgarage2 ай бұрын
It's like drilling them bigger. But you use a ream not a drill bit to get it to the size you want.

@streetstancecivicgarage I'm sure that's something you could diy too right? And why wouldn't they fit off the shelf?
