Ring does a good job of including everything you'll need to complete the installation. My installation was easy and straight-forward. I removed the existing door-bell button. Per the instructions, I made sure we were working with a mechanical bell (& not an electronic chime). If your Ring is being installed on wood siding Do Not Use the included drill bit. That is only f/stuco &/or masonry, using the supplied plastic wall anchors. Electrical connection was easy. Connecting to the home's existing router was easy. We went through the set-up on the Ring app & it worked well on our first try.. I viewed one or two videos before the installation; my opinion is that will help make the installation simple.

Place towel beneath installation to catch dropped screws. Backplate must be installed to match the orientation of the Ring. Aluminum cladding around doorjamb will block Wi-Fi, had to cut away a square behind the Ring unit with a Dremel.

Tip to installing on brick *Get a smaller drill bit for brick and mortar, the supplied drill bit will walk. *best to have a drill with built in level. *Use the bracket as a template for the the smaller holes, tape in place before results. *once smaller holes have been drilled use the supplied drill bit to finish hole diameter.

The one I bought (Ring 2) said it is wireless. I guess I'll find out when I go to install it. Of course I will follow the directions so I don't screw it up. It looks pretty easy.

Lukeamania It technically is wireless because it has a battery, but if you don’t hardwire it to where your old doorbell was, you will have to charge that battery regularly. Meaning you’ll have to have your ring off during each charge.

I checked the voltage at my existing button doorbell and it only read about 12.5VAC. There is a little light on that switch. I hooked up the Ring Doorbell 2 and it did not power on. The chime is pretty old, just goes ding and releases when you let go of the old button. Do I need to do something to the doorbell inside to get more voltage to the button?

Yeah looking closer at the video it does look like there may be just enough room to feed them through one at a time. On my house the wires are embedded in cement so they really don't give you a lot of room to work with behind the back cover. Ended up having to chisel out a small recess for the wires to sit in.

@ring

Hey neighbor, you can certainly use your Ring Doorbell 2 for the Live View or motion detection only. You can manually deactivate Ring alerts in the Ring App. We also offer battery-powered Security Cams that don't include the doorbell button but will alert you to motion detections. Batteries are rated for 6-12 months, however, the battery life will depend on usage and how frequently your Ring is used. You can keep an eye on the battery percentage in the Ring App so you'll know when it needs to be charged. Our battery-powered Ring devices can certainly work without being connected to wiring. Let us know if you have any more questions!

Hi Brad! Similar to the classic Ring Doorbell, the LED circle on the front of your Ring Doorbell 2 will illuminate and stay solid white to indicate that it's receiving power. It requires 8-24 volts of AC power and if there is existing wiring to connect your Ring to, then you should not need to install a transformer.

So from what I can gather, as others have asked this question, there’s is no major benefit in terms of charging the battery if you wire your doorbell. The wiring is mainly chime related, correct? I was hoping that if I wired my doorbell it would charge the battery or provide alternate power. Oh well. Still a good product.
@ring
@ring 4 жыл бұрын
Great questions, neighbor. Hardwiring your battery-powered Ring Doorbell will help to provide a trickle charge of up to 10% each day. Depending on the activity your Doorbell sees, such as motion detections or Live View usage, you may still need to recharge the battery occasionally. You can monitor the battery level in the Ring App to know when a recharge is needed. Please let us know if you have any more questions!

@ring
@ring 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter. Ensuring that your Ring device will be securely mounted to the wall is important when keeping an eye on the events happening around your home. The Ring Video Doorbell 2 is screwed into the wall using the installation tools included in the packaging. Once the Ring Video Doorbell 2 is mounted to the wall, a security screw can be inserted into the bottom of the device so that the Faceplate is secured and cannot be removed. The Ring Video Doorbell 2, 3, 3+, and 4 have removable Faceplates, while the Ring Video Doorbell 1st and 2nd generations do not have removable Faceplates. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

If you have 16 volts, then it is connected to a transformer somewhere in you house. Touch the wires together to see if you hear a chime, if not, then the chime is either broken or removed. Either way, you'll need to find the transformer since it is most likely a low power model (16V/10VA) like mine was. Replace it with ring's recommended model 16V/30VA that can be purchased at home depot for about $17. www.homedepot.com/p/Newhouse-Hardware-16-Volt-30vA-Wired-Door-Bell-Transformer-Compatible-with-Ring-Pro-30TR/307787405

I wired my ring doorbell to the existing wires on my doorbell with the wire extenders. Do i still need to charge the battery periodically or does the wiring i did charge the battery?
@ring
@ring 5 жыл бұрын
Great question, neighbor! The Ring Doorbell 2 is primarily battery-powered so it will need to be recharged occasionally depending on usage. Connecting it to the doorbell wiring will help provide a trickle charge to the battery. However, frequent motion detection or Live View usage can still cause battery drain. Remember to check your Ring's Device Health page for the battery percentage. Let us know if you have any more questions!

Hi, Today morning I have connected the external power supply (20VA) also charged the battery to 100%. The power source show me Hardwire when I Checked in ring App. Now ater 8 hrs the battery status shown me 94%. I have connected the power supply still battery Darin constantly. It is not charging the battery. Then what is the use of hardwired? How to fix this issue?
@ring
@ring 4 жыл бұрын
Hi neighbor, we'd like to help! Depending on the amount of activity your Ring sees, such as motion detection or Live View usage, the battery may still drain even when hardwired. Connecting your Ring to wiring will provide it with a trickle charge of up to 10% each day, however, you may still need to charge it occasionally depending on usage. If you're seeing a hardwired connection in the Ring App, this means that you've properly hardwired your Ring to power.

Hey Joseph, 18-gauge wire is the ideal gauge to use with Ring Video Doorbells. It provides the proper amount of resistance and is very easy to work with and makes wiring simple. To determine whether or not the wire you're using is 18-gauge, get a standard metal thumbtack and compare the pin to the wire. 18-gauge wire is approximately the width of the pin.

Most doorbells already installed have these already. The 120v AC from breaker goes into transformer then the 8 to 24v power goes to the bell/chime a wire from chime goes to the doorbell switch outside to interrupt the + line unless pressed.... My doorbell for example is 18V AC... You can check at your doorbell chime the voltage with a multimeter set to 200v AC.

You don’t need to turn off the breaker. If your doorbell wires kill you, you’ll be so famous it would be worth it. There is not enough voltage to even feel on your doorbell. The lawyers make them say that. If your transformer is near your electrical panel, which is common it will be on a random circuit breaker. If it’s located elsewhere in your house it will likely be on a circuit for that area.
