Here’s a good way to repair a damaged rock seawall. The filter cloth is the key to the wall success if the filter cloth is not installed properly all the water will flow to the lowest point of the filter cloth creating eroded spots in your yard.

We have a mile of riverfront that we constantly do battle with the river in spring runoff. Ended up getting an excavator and dump truck to move rock around, which we have plenty of. Nice video.

Clean install. i've been looking at delineation ideas, Most of the rip rap installs i see here if not going against an old wall look bad because there's no delineation, maybe it's people don't want to pay/cost thing (or more than likely they don't know to ask for ideas and the contractors don't offer it up) ... i don't know ...but it's a detail that makes a huge difference. Even just driving some posts behind, putting a beam, and capping, and any kind of a border would make a big difference. I've wondered how long the geocloth lasts in these riprap installs as i never see that mentioned, but reading the usfabrics,etc docs some of the commercial geofabric if not exposed to uv has a 50-100+ yr lifespan . But i suppose if thinking long long term maintenance (like your grandkids inheriting property or something) if it's not that long of a lifespan they can always put a new layer down then another layer of rock.. The old timber i have has filter fabric in back and it's around 30-40ish years old but the fabric i saw exposed thru the rotten bottom portions before temporarily shoring up seemed surprising solid condition , stuff must last a long time.

I plan on following your plan to do a poor man’s seawall with rip rap for my back yard, it looks amazing. Did you cut holes in the fabric for the posts to go through? I see the fabric is wrapped and screwed to the rear 2x6. Thank you for the video.
@DaleWHickman
@DaleWHickman 11 ай бұрын
Hey, thanks for watching my video. Yes, we did cut holes for the fabric that goes out to the front to go underneath the rock. I also ran an additional 6 foot layer in the back behind a pilings so total of two layers of filter fabric.

Do you have any suggestions on how to make sure the filter cloth is installed correctly? Also, what’s the best way to attach the filter cloth to the structure and not have it rip? Great video.
@DaleWHickman
@DaleWHickman Жыл бұрын
Thank you I always like to take a board and wrap the fabric cloth around the board and then nail that or screw it to the structure to prevent the filter from ripping. You have to use a pretty heavy duty cloth so it doesn’t rip

Dale. Just an idea. What about wrapping riprap with cyclone fencing a couple time's. It'll sit still. Better 🤷🏻‍♂️ The rock weight should keep it from floating away. Like a cage. The way some rock distributors sell and deliver rocks on pallets. Just a thought ❗ be safe 👍🏻✌️🙏🇺🇲
@DaleWHickman
@DaleWHickman 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Paul not really sure what cyclone fencing is is it anything like Gabion baskets? It would have to be made out of stainless steel to survive the saltwater environment.

🤪😜 HAHA sorry 😥😞 I thought that's what it was called 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️ Chain-link fencing 👍🏻 Better 😃 Saltwater 👹. Wouldn't last to long 😞 Here in Michigan. Water erosion on lake michigan. They are using A bag like. Pumping cement into them. But I haven't seen em show if they're holding up ❓ I know it completely different than what your doing. Or the problems you have in Florida ❗✌️🙏

I wonder what would happen , if you were to put filter cloths and do like you said triple layer but then foam in the middle so basically sandwich it between 3 layers of cloth on each side then fill with foam in the middle and have ur rock put down so it adds to securing the riprap in place?? I honestly want to see what would happen

@DaleWHickman

Hey Sherry thanks for watching my channel and your comment. The double layer of filter cloth we’ve installed does a pretty good job of filtering any Sand that tries to washout maybe when it’s first installed you will get a little coloration but that goes away quickly once everything settles out.

What happens if there is overflowing into the yard after putting those limestone at the bank of the river of which the waterlevel is already close to the top.
@DaleWHickman

Thank you so much for your question and watching my channel. As long as you have adequate erosion control/filter fabric installed properly behind the wall. The soil level will maintain although it is really hard to maintain soil level in rivers with water flowing parallel with it, I would suggest planting a good Route base grass or needlegrass to slow it down. Saint Augustine in this area works really good it has a very deep route. There is also a product called TM sod. It is like a filter weave but bigger holes in it where the sod can grow through it and it prevents scouring from behind the wall. He put that down first and then the sod on top of it typically 12 foot behind the wall.

Hey Guy sorry I overlooked your comment but it really depends on the size of boat that you’re going to get. The elevation of the dock would be determined to make it easier for you to access the dock from your boat.

@6:22 are those boards bolted to the side of the pilings or are they sitting on a notched out portion of the piling and then bolted to it?
@DaleWHickman
@DaleWHickman 7 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching my channel and your comment. If we not every single Piling on the dock and cross dive, that would put the price range out of control for our customers. The ball we use are more than adequate to support the framing. The framing will break before those bolts will ever fail. There are some situations when you’re driving on it as far as bridge that do get notched.

Hey August I sure do there’s really no benefit to removing the oyster shells or barnacle with the exception of if you’re going to install Piling wrap to protect the poles. Then you would want a nice clean surface to attach the Piling rap to.
