How to Install ShipLap Siding from Start to Finish!! Tips and Tricks

In this video I show you how to make shiplap siding and install it on my shed. But ship lap is not only for exterior, you can pair it with other materials in your bedroom, kitchen or even around a fire place to make a statement. Its very easy to make with minimal tools and I walk you step by step from selecting the wood, finishing it and the entire installation process.

Thank you for saying you cut it backwards. I can’t tell you how many times it happened to me when I was putting a beadboard backsplash up in my kitchen. I had never tackled a backsplash around a window and the apron and return really threw me. I must have destroyed ten pieces of beadboard. Lol I messed up so bad I had to call in my stepdad(the tile guy) to advise me.

Great shed project. Just wondering why you did not leave a gap at the bottom of the shiplap for water to escape?

That corner looks really nice, so much so that I wondered why you didn't cover more of the shed? I also wondered why you didn't create a drainage plane behind all of your siding. Then caulking would not be necessary and the space between the WRB and the siding will be ventilated. Even after a hard driving rain, the space will have a place to drain from. I grew up in a house built in 1920 that had red cedar beveled plank siding that was always blistering and peeling. It turned out that the siding was never primed on the back side. If it had been and a drainage plane was also installed that siding finish would have never failed. Since it was always ventilated caulking all the joints would have been unnecessary.. I wondered why you didn't cut the lap to provide the gap automatically?
