15:40 Tip: if you want to reduce energy loss, sound transfer, and the potential for insects to crawl into your house, spray foam or caulk those gaps between the drywall and the pipes. It takes just a minute and makes a huge difference.

Several comments. 1. Teflon Tape is a thread sealant, teflon paste is a thread sealant and lubricant. 2. Definitely use a drain w/out overflow when possible. (Low use guest bath probably fine) 3. Drilling from both sides 👍. I would have used hole saws for a cleaner hole and no chance of splitting. Self feed is a rough carpentry tool. 4. That must have been a well made drain assembly to tighten that hard.. Plastic popup assemblies will self destruct with a fraction of the force you applied. Try using 100% silicone caulk as your gasket on top. You can also use a small bead on the bottom where the gasket meets the sink and where the gasket meets the threads. This allows you to use an appropriate amount of torque and still achieve a. Seal that lasts as long as the drain assembly. Professional drain assemblies mostly do not cone with foam gaskets. 5. Thanks for bringing these videos to the common man/woman. Thoughtful and informative.

Right on the money with those useful cardboard gaskets. I was installing 2 new vanity sinks a couple months ago, and without a cardboard gasket, it *IS* tough getting that tapered rubber seal to make even contact with the drain.

5:39 I suggest putting sealant or Teflon tap on the thread for locking nut. The reason is that, the washer gasket is not ideal to seal the grooves for thread. The water could get through the overflow hole of the drain and leak into grooves between gasket and thread. When the rubber aging, it is getting worse. Many contractors does not know this trick, including my friend who installed the sink with water leaking at thread but could not figured it out. Later he seals all thread for those sink drains.

Once again, thank you! Even though most of what you show here doesn't apply to our current project there is always something useful that we can glean that will help us out when we get to the plumbing part. The progress on our project: Furring strips on the ceiling are in place, the walls and drywall removed. Next will be to replace the rotted subfloor. Question: Do we sheetrock the walls first or the ceiling first?

Teach your son the right hand rule of thumb . Take your right hand point your thumb in the direction you want to screw, your fingers point in the direction you need to turn the screw, bolt, or nut. I find this great when you are in some strange / upside down position and need to know which way to turn the wrench.

My comment is not hate, just an observation. You used 2 different sharkbite shut offs in a video, straight and angled. Funny enough 1 turned out to be a smaller size (meant for a fridge line or another 1/4 inch supply line). Your drain connection is against code. Can't use 90 degree couplings in horizontal drains. Have to use 45 or 22.5 degree couplings. Finally, you should put a braided water supply line on a toilet before installing a toilet.

I'd highly recommend doing copper stub outs for all these supply lines. You can still use your shark-bite angle stop on the copper once you auto-cut it. Also straight stop for toilet to copper stub out. Home Depot sells them and they are cheap. Less movement, less chance of hitting a push fitting against drywall (or floor) and causing a disaster. Hey Jeff, love the channel. I'm in a condo built in the '30s and thinking of turning the kitchen into a bathroom. Can you think of any obvious reason why that wouldn't work? Can I probably just run the drains for the toilet, shower, and sink down the soil stack that's currently just used by the kitchen sink and the dishwasher? I'm not going to try to DIY this level of plumbing but want to know if what I'm considering makes any sense at all.

Great video... just a thought... why not put the little toilet hole attachments on the side before you install the toilet, this way you still have the opening to tighten the toilet and all you gotta do is clip on the cover and you can also pre-install the water attachment before you install the toilet and all you have to do is attached it to the water source.

I love the style of that toilet! Looks like it would be easier to clean. They sell those in the states? I'll have to look.

Hence the name, friction ring. As for the self feed bits, I got a couple of the Milwaukee ones that come with the removable blade. They’re wonderful. You can still sharpen them a little but if the blade gets you dinged up you can just put a new one on instead of buying a new bit. Also I wouldn’t use that drill for a self feed very often. Get a good right angle drill that will provide much more torque. I burned up a Milwaukee drill and broke the chuck from drilling too many 2 9/16 holes with mine. They can do it but they just aren’t designed for that much torque. Also I wouldn’t use the high speed gear on any self feed or auger bit. It’s better to use the low speed high torque setting. Those faucet buts with the two screws are such an awesome invention. They’ve pretty much made the basin wrench irrelevant which doesn’t hurt my feelings. Plus they’re much easier to remove as well. You don’t have to try to remove a stuck nut with a basin wrench or pliers. Many times on old faucets we’d end up just cutting them off with a sawzall. I’m also curious why you used a straight stop on the cold side and an angle stop on the hot. Why not an angle stop on both. It would keep the supply line tighter to the wall. Id also have connected my trap with a 45 if possible. It’s hard to judge the distance from the wall on video. That fitting looks like it converts toilet threads to 1/2” ip so you can use a faucet supply line

Kohler makes a great soft close universal round or elongated with built in blue led that runs 8 hrs from the time you set it everyday. PCB is conformal coated so it should last, 4x AA's run about a year.

Do you know what is missing from your favorite tools on Amazon? A good tool belt! I am preparing to do a conversion of a 500sqft garage into a ADU and I am thinking that I am going to need a good tool belt, as well as a ton of other stuff. Already added some of your favorite stuff to a wishlist so that when the permit comes in and I go on a shopping spree I'm all set.

Why does your cold shark bite shut off a straight connector and your hot is a 90 degree one. Is there a special reason for this or did you just use 2 different shutoffs by accident?

I've noticed that Canadian construction uses more ABS where American construction uses more PVC for outflow, what's the difference?
