An off-grid solar system has four main components. A Solar panel, battery pack, charge controller, and an inverter. The diagram below explains how each and component are connected together ina sn off-grid solar power system.
Solar panels convert solar energy directly to electricity. The principle behind this conversion is photovoltaics.
A solar charge controller manages the power going into the battery bank from the solar array. It ensures that the deep cycle batteries are not overcharged during the day and that the power doesn’t run back to the solar panels overnight and drain the batteries.
The solar battery also is known as solar panel battery, solar power battery, or solar battery storage. It refers to devices that store energy generated from the solar panels for later use.

This panel can put out close to 100 watts kzbin.infoUgkxOqI2yqX0XVrhR2BMJciTWrHJpG8FhJyg when positioned in the appropriate southernly direction, tilted to the optimal angle for your latitude/date, and connected to a higher capacity device than a 500. The built in kickstand angle is a fixed at 50 degrees. Up to 20% more power can be output by selecting the actual date and latitude optimal angle.The 500 will only input 3.5A maximum at 18 volts for 63 watts. Some of the excess power from the panel can be fed into a USB battery bank, charged directly from the panel while also charging a 500. This will allow you to harvest as much as 63 + 15 = 78 watts.If this panel is used to charge a larger device, such as the power station, then its full output potential can be realized.

Small tip I learned from another channel, to avoid a spark when connecting -ve wire from the inverter to battery -ve terminal hold a small resistor between the wire and battery terminal for a few seconds to charge up the capacitors inside the inverter then proceed to connect the cable. Also you do not need this trick for LFP as the BMS inside the battery will prevent the sudden power surge.

Thanks for the video. It is very good and well explained. Thanks also for providing the list of components. This will help us start building a basic, yet fully functional solar system. I have a few questions, please, if you don't mind: (Q1) I see that you have 2 X 50W solar panels, configured in parallel, which will add the amperage of the two panels together while the voltage remains unchanged. I can also see that you are using a 10A charge controller. My question is, what is the amperage of each solar panel? (Q2) Since you are using a parallel configuration for the solar panels, is there a need for an in-line fuse for each panel to protect them, should one panel develop a fault? Equally, if an in-line fuse is needed, what capacity fuse will be most appropriate? (Q3) I may be mistaken, but it looks like you are using 40A 2pole DC circuit breakers on the charge controller to isolate the solar panels, battery and DC loads respectively. Is this the most appropriate method, i.e. should the capacity of the circuit breaker, depend on the component at the other end? Or would you recommend, in addition to having the 40A breakers on the charge controller, adding fuses to protect each component, e.g. 100A (or so) fuse on the battery, 10A in-line fuse on each solar panel, etc.? (Q4) Finally, does the circuit between the battery and inverter, require a breaker or fuse? This may be on the model, but I am not able to see it properly. Thanks in advance and carry on with the good work. Your work is appreciated.

Hi thank you for you interesting content. I have one question, I know this is not relevant for a small system but can't we plug the inverter to the DC in charge controller to prevent battery drain during the day (considering a bigger solar system power input)? Aren't all these off grid systems always draining the battery when solar alone during the day could be perfectly capable of powering the appliances (after converting to ac).
@newphysicist
@newphysicist 2 жыл бұрын
Good questions. 1. You can connect inverter to the controller and you must. But your charge controller rating must be enough to handle the possible power draw by the inverter. That’s all. If the inverter draw 12A through a charge controller, it’ll die. 2. You can directly connect inverter to the panel as long as the load is ok with a fluctuating power input. Otherwise it’s bad for both the load and inverter. That’s why we use batteries. But in Grid tie systems there’re no batteries. Grid will supply the required power. Appreciate your questions 👍

Hi . If you want to charge the batery from the AC outlets what extra you are going to use? And also how much greater the voltage from the Solar panel can be from the voltage of the battery?
@newphysicist
@newphysicist 3 жыл бұрын
If you are using an MPPT charge controller it’ll adjust the voltage & current best for the battery. It’s not the voltage but the current you have to take care about. There is an option in most investors for “IN”. There you can connect the AC. The adapter inside the inverter will convert the AC to DC and charge the battery.

Nice video - I am new to this but have a PWM charge controller (30A) and purchased a 100W solar panel. I want to use it to charge LED lights on my garden - (12V 40W) - I can just hook up the lights directly to the load and they will switch on and off as per the timer. I dont think I need an isolator etc for that setup as the power levels are not so high. If I wanted to get an inverter (will need isolators) and powered a garden feature from the AC output - can that output be controlled with a timer so it will come and and off as per the load? or will it always be on? My battery will be a standard (used) car battery, SLA 12V 50Ah
