I love that detail of wrapping the J in the corner, I’m gonna try that on my next job. When water runs down the wall and turns that top piece of J mold into a gutter, the water runs down the sides and a lot of it goes behind the siding. I’ve seen the Amish run 20” flat sheet metal clear down the wall to the rat guard. I was impressed. It’s the same problem with vinyl siding. I have used a transition strip / Z mold on top of the window and run it past 1 inch on each side. Functional but not very pretty, I have used a piece of J and notch the siding 1” out on each side, A small dab of caulking at the joint and at least it gives it a little overhang. If anyone ask, it’s a colonial style, just mach the trim inside the house while you’re at it 😁🙈 I run synthetic felt down the wall, I’ve seen some bad Tyvek. Looks like a nice product, Hope to see more steel siding products in the future.

My board and batten siding arrives this week, was wondering how wide are the duck bill pliers is he using to make the bends on the J-channel.

Difficult pliers to find! Ted has had them for 20+ years but if you can find them they are about 1/2 in wide

You must be relying on the Tyvek to keep the water out when the water runs behind the J channel. Put together just like an old pole barn. I’ve seen the Tyvek turn to flaky powder in three years.

water shouldnt be running behind the j-channel. If it does, yes a moisture barrier is there

Is the only way to overlap the vertical pieces is with z channel? There is no way to over lap the pieces themselves (slide one over the other)? our whole house is just under 20', so having the z channel across the whole length of the house just destroys the look for me.

Is there a way to replace a panel if damaged? Watched the video on the Log style siding, would it be same on B&B siding?

Yep! Very similar process of cutting the panel out and modifying one to fit into the space in the middle of the wall

Can Trulog steel board and batten siding be installed on a post frame building without plywood sheeting behind it? Meaning can it be screwed into the grit boards running between posts?

You can install on the girts. We would like to see OSB or some sort of solid backing as the best option. But you can attach right to the steel

When installing the finished L on the bottom for the panels do you keep it off the concrete a 1/4 to a 1/2 inch

You are correct, just a little bit up off the concrete so its not directly touching

Thanks for this video. Does the material rust at the ends where it is cut? What about the tight folds with pliers, will it rust there?

Our steel is galvanized with zinc and aluminum to prevent rust and corrosion so the ends wont rust \

What type of screws are you using?

You can us anything that has a wafer head, coated, 1.5 inches long. In the video we used drywall screws
