Love those! Fun fact, the first time I googled for one of those, I came across strap-ons... I was like "wtf?!" XD

11:08 haha yes I did the same recently, I also switched to that same new position and with a strap, it just feels more similar to standing.

Does it matter the kind of straplock? Can I just take off the factory strapholders and screw on any straplock I want?
@austrianpickingpower Жыл бұрын
Basically yes

Great comparison and detailed explanation. What I dont like about Gotoh is you have to cut the hole strap. I almost died when you put the screws over the RG550 Body 😅

Glad you liked it! I like uncomplicate strap locks like ernie balls as well

The systems where the piece that is on the strap is just screwed with a hex nut like the old style Schaller, Ernie Ball and Gotoh are prone to fail. They get lose over time and the strap can slip off if one does not check the hex nut regularly. The only ones that are usable in my opinion are the new Schaller with the locking thumb screw and the system from Dunlop. A downside of the Schaller style ones (also Fender for instance) is that the U-shaped part starts to rotate on the strap, especially with the pin position of a Les Paul style guitar. This happens on all my leather straps. The "teeth" that should dig into the strap to avoid rotation do not work for my straps. I also don't like to have to enlarge the hole in the strap. I like to have the option to put the strap on another guitar that does not have dedicated strap lock pins. That all in mind leads me to Dunlop being the only option (for me). The rubber washer also works great by the way. It's just annoying if one often removes/attaches a strap.

thank you for writing so much great tips and experiences! I need to try out the new schaller system!

you know what grinds my gears? J customs have locking straps but no locking tuners!
@austrianpickingpower2 жыл бұрын
yah it´s true but to be honest a locking strap system is way more important than locking tuners...you will use the locking tuners maybe once per month when changing strings but the danger of falling down is given every day. Personally I don´t touch the mechanics through a string life and it isn´t necessary in my opinion. I don´t like the strap system as well, that´s why I replaced it with the ernie ball system

Generally anything with a locking nut doesn’t include locking tuners.
@cashway04202 жыл бұрын
@@brianvillage5 they should, it's not just about tuning stability they make string changing way easier and faster

Greta video, personally I wouldn't even have bothered with cutting away the strap, I'd just nip it up a bit tighter with a spanner, it wont be moving then, and with the extra grip even cheapo straps should have a decent lifespan, although I do like a nice thick leather strap myself!

The newer version of the Schallers are almost dead silent. They also have a better designed nut that is far less prone to coming loose. You also no longer need to pull on the release button to put the strap on. It just slides on and locks in place on it's own. You only need to pull the button to remove the strap from the guitar. By a _HUGE_ margin, the revised Schaller S-Locks are the best on the market. Check them out if you haven't already.

You don't have to pull the pin on the Schaller system when attaching the strap.... just hook it on.

For me it doesn´t feel too good if I just press it on...but you´re right - you don´t have to pull
