Being out there and taking part in the building looks more fun than sitting in an office and drawing. When I start doing extension designs some time, I'm going to get my hands messy by helping the build.

Like your stuff and I am new to the channel. 152x152 is a column (UC) and is an upright and shouldn't really be used for a support. A UB or universal beam would be deeper and the flange smaller. Example, 203 (Depth ) x 133 (Flange width). These are used in contruction for supports, and the 152x152 would be the column.

Thanks for your videos, very informative. I’m doing something similar soon. I’m guessing your original bungalow ceiling joists run parallel to the new steel? Mine run frintvto back, so I guess the ends of the joists would sit in the web or would the steel havecto go under the original wall plate?

Fine assuming the floor structure can take the roof load transferred from the props ..but how do you know without testing it?
