Why do you put your tack strip so far away from the boards? I noticed all US vids of carpet fitter's do this, it's meant to be no more than a finger width to allow to obtain a smooth edge for the carpet to be tucked neatly in the gully of the gripper...

Andy Laurant I know people put down too far away and I have to tear it up and put it down right and they staple it in the gap and that just sucks

Gripper is to far away from the baseboard carpet will just pop out the gully over time. The grippering is rough could be neater around the architraves.
