I just installed a TCI Fast Gate shifter in my gasser with 700R4 trans, and a couple things didn't jive with mine. First the Allen head stop bolt doesn't even need to be used. I put it in, and my shifter wouldn't get all 4 forward gears, only 2nd thru 4th. Next I tried the idea of a small lightweight spring to ensure the T handle returned to work better, and it actually defeated the ratchet up shift and allowed the shifter to always shift from 1st to 4th without stopping in each gear, just as it does if you move it slowly. I found that on my car with carpet and sound deadener installed, the shifter housing wouldn't go down low enough to allow the 3 cover screws to be installed, and I had to trim 3/8" off the bottom of the cover to allow it to be installed and the holes lined up. I had no issue with the cable hole as my old shifter had a slot in the floor, and I mounted the new shifter back 3.75" from the hole to let it use the slot. The front edge of the cover still covered the slot and hid it.

Thanks for posting a video about this shifter. I am needing a budget shifter and this will be great. Looks like a lot of cable bind at the trans. I hope that doesn't cause you any issues.

The lockout Allen head bolt is not needed on 4l60s. They way he has it installed prevents you from going into 1st gear

My question is how did you put the selector cable in the bracket that is attached to the crankcase I would appreciate it very much greetings from Mexico
@thousanddollarcarguy3 жыл бұрын
Hmmm Well there should be nothing going to the crankcase. Unless your refering to the transmission pan? Theres a series of brackets that come with the kit to mount to all different types of transmissions. The bracket lines up with the mechanical shifter linkage coming off the side of the transmission. From there the particular bracket you need to use gets mounted on with the existing transmission pan bolts. The instructions will tell you which ones to use. After that you unscrew 2 or 3 of the transmission pan bolts. Attach the bracket. Put new longer bolts in. Then hook up your cable through the bracket an onto your shift linkage. Hope this helps.

You actually have this installed wrong. You should not have the locking pin in. I guarantee your gears are not shifting properly. If you read the instructions there are 2 park locations. For a GM transmission you should be skipping the second "gate which makes a large gap between P and R. So it should be Park, blank, Reverse, N D 3 2 1. First gear should be the very last slot. You install the locking bolt for 3 speed transmissions and the second "park gate" is for Chrysler and Ford transmissions. Once I had this correct everything worked properly.
@thousanddollarcarguy4 жыл бұрын
I can take a look. Ive only ever used park and drive so far. Both of which worked. But you may be onto something. I screenshotted this and hopefully when the cars up and running again i can confirm Thanks!

Here you can see it with the console kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2eqZKJ9obiLm80. It is tall. But also comfortable. Im still very happy with it overall.

Enjoyed the video. But I must say I noticed one thing that was not correct imo. You drilled the 1 inch hole 3-3/4" ahead of the end of the shifter cable mount, but it should have been 3-3/4" from the end of the front shifter mounting hole. That would also explain the angle being a bit off.

I routed my cable as smooth as possible and mine is stiff as well. Cool project 👍 my gate shifting is different than yours though.. My first gear is the last hole and I have a space between park and reverse.

I couldn't seem to get my cable to line up correctly either way I did it. I'm running a 4l80e. I tried both ways but the 4l80e and 4l60e are 4 speed transmissions which means you shouldn't be using that stopper Allen nut. When my shifter cable is attached with the tab on the outside of the bracket the cable won't physically allow the shifter to go to that last spot. I'm confused.
@langspeedcycle4 жыл бұрын
@@loluracing My Allen bolt is not in there either. I adjusted the cable at the front of the bracket so it would go into all gears correctly. Took hours of tinkering to figure out. The instructions were barely useful.
@loluracing4 жыл бұрын
@@langspeedcycle yeah I don't know what the deal is with mine. When I put the shifter into low, the farthest rear slot, I physically can not get the cable to attach at the shifter while in that position. I think the cable is messed up or something.

*attn* reverse is not 1 slot in the gate it's actually the 2nd slot for gm transmissions also the shifter will not get into the last gate 1st gear on a 4 speed you actually have to move the tab on the shifter to the inside and space it about 3/8 of in i have installed 4 of these in customers cars i have had a long discussion with TCI the instructions are garbage and they state nothing im saying is true........

@@thousanddollarcarguy damn. I may buy this and a shift kit and install it on my Buick. Will the fact it's a column shifter give me any issue or not really?
@thousanddollarcarguy4 жыл бұрын
@@poontsunami1114 not really. The only additional work is removing the original cable behind the dash for the shifter. Technically you could leave most of it there and just remove it at the trans. My transmission originally had a column shift. But we left all of thst in the truck when we scrapped it.

@thousanddollarcarguy4 жыл бұрын
I have a tcu for my application. Its just replacing a gear selector. But it can be used in any application where a leaver moved the gear selector in the transmission.
