*Great unit that’s easy to install and use. It’s relatively quiet compared to window units and **Fastly.Cool** , and it cools down our whole living room, side room and bathroom; which is a large space for any unit to cool.*

This was great help! Instructions on what to do if you have a red wire from the house would have been great to include. I ended up grouping it with the black wires. Works wonderfully

Sorry for the late reply. I'm not an licensed electrician and would advise anyone to contact a licensed electrician if not sure about the wiring. Typically, the red wire is a wall switch wire. In that case I would connect the remote receiver's black wire to the house red wire and cap off the house black wire.- that way you could use the wall switch to turn just the light on/off.

Thanks for the video, helpful. I installed mine without the remote kit using two circuits and two smart wall switches. Wired into my home automation system and works super well.

I am trying to install a Harbor Breeze Sail Stream ceiling fan but the instructions requires a cable to go around a wooden support structure in the ceiling as a added safety feature. The cable normally does nothing but keeping the fan hanging in case when the fan (with or without the electrical outlet box attached) fall off for whatever reason. I've watched a few instructional videos and none showed installation of the cable. Is that step absolutely necessary? The fan weights about 20lb.

Let me start by saying that we are not licensed electricians, or safety experts, so anything we say should be taken with a grain of salt. Ok, that being said, I went to the Lowes site and looked at the manual for the Sail Stream fan. This seems to be a 52in hugger type fan with 3 blades. It looks similar to the Harbor Breeze Mazon fan. I looked at the manual and didn't see anything about a safety cable wrapping around a wood support. I know in Canada, the law requires a safety cable to be attached somehow, but the US does not have the same regulations. Is it possible that you live in Canada or have a Canadian version of this fan? I would think (don't hold me to this) that if the mounting bracket is securely attached to the outlet box, and the outlet box is rated for fan support, you may be able to get away with not attaching a safety cable. Good luck.

I do live in Canda. The outlet box was a plastic one. I was planning to install a brace bar but the space between the joists was too narrow and the bar won't fit. At least the hole was right next to a 2X4 joist. I guess I can attach a metal outlet box to that but I am dubious whether that would be sturdy enough as the outlet box was only supported on one side. The fan wasn't heavy. it was only 17lb.
