As mentioned in the comments: for the hard way, you can install libglvnd and pkgconf-pkg-config for satisfying the Nvidia .run installer before running it. The full command: sudo zypper in pkgconf-pkg-config libglvnd libglvnd-32bit libglvnd-devel Enjoy! PS: thanks to @daviusikse1486 for the update.

One of the best informative linux guide. That's because you can apply this method to all distributions based on systemd.

Bro you saved me a lot of time...Being a Fedora user and have to work on DL, AI and ML tasks..rpmfusion sucks in case of nvidia..this tutorial of you worked like a charm the difficult way also helped me to understand the actual process. On a ligher note....the Dkms was first misunderstood as Gkms...due to German excent of yours...Love from Pakisan!

In my opinion, you will have to show the easy easy way full GUI (adding the repo with yast, using the repository tab, clicing to nvidia repo and click the good things). pkg-config and libglvnd are dependancies needed for naming the card and some other things. You NEED to install them BEFORE using the run. the nvidia-xconfig configuration saying YES can reduce to a BLACK SCREEN AFET REBOOT (Cardiac case on laptop)

Speaking of laptop... Yeah, I;m having an issue with my HP ZBook 17 G4 with nvidia. The external monitor is not working on this one laptop. My G2 and G6 work fine with nvidia and external monitor. Let me boot up the G4 and follow along.

Does this process work for laptops with 2 cards? 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation HD Graphics P630 (rev 04) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GP104GLM [Quadro P4000 Mobile] (rev a1) My external monitor works now, but the laptop screen is not working.

Thanks for the info! This was very helpful. In this case I installed the NVIDIA 550.40.07 (beta) driver. There are still some issues with glitching in wayland. I assume it will be resolved. I have the RTX 3060 laptop version by the way. I switched from Fedora 39 to Opensuse Tumbleweed a few days ago. Liking it so far 🙂

Been awhile since I watched your channel, lately I've been thinking of ditching my 4090 to go too AMD, 2 biggest reasons I don't use Linux as my daily driver anymore is still lack of DLSS FG and HDR support, both of which are seemingly not going to be a issue on AMD since FSR3 should work without issue on linux and then Steam Decks newest update shipped HDR support in it
@A1RM4X Жыл бұрын
If I were you I would keep my 4090, it would be the worst time to ditch it... Nvidia drivers are missing functionalities right now and their next branch version (545.XXX) will solve the issue related to Wayland (so HDR is not far). For DLSS 3 (DLSS FG), they will implement it in their linux drivers, one day or another, I would not sweat it either... Worst case scenario you would be using FSR3 while waiting. On top of that, I have seen benchmark of 7900 XTX on Linux. Yes, they work out of the box, but the performance are really really far from a 4090. They make sense if you are looking for the best price / performance ratio, otherwise (you already own a 4090,) they just don´t...

Excellent explanation. However, the 'hard' way does not appear to work for Leap 15.5. (1) you need to add "nomodeset" to the boot script. And (2) the downloaded driver is not accepted as 'signed' so it is not excepted. I can't figure how out to have it 'signed'.

Have you ever tried regataos? It's based off opensuse but i am wondering what would be better for gaming regata or just a official install of tumbleweed
@kristofkolosnagy9152Ай бұрын
It is a bit confusing to what you need to install, I mean what packages. In Regata OS (wich is opensuse based) is much simpler, I wish they would make it that easy in Tumbleweed :)

I did in both the hard way and easy way but the installation didn't work!! Edit: I uninstalled all the previous installation of nvidia and tried using the hard way. It seems that it has installed after typing in lsmod | grep nvidia. Also, I can see something different in Nvidia X settings. But Alas, my fastfetch still shows Intel GPU and not Nvidia. I tried selecting nvidia using sudo prime-select nvidia but still there is no change!!!!

there are no "repo of NVIDIA" , why
@VJ-zm5xi10 ай бұрын
I don't know, it just doesn't work for me, maybe it's because I'm on a Lenovo laptop. I mean yeah, tried the first and second methods shown in the video even before watching the video (read official manual). Maybe to stupid to use this distro yet. P.S.: actually the issue I have is switching between nouveau opensource driver and proprietary nvidia driver. That's what seems complicated now. P.P.S.: sddm doesn’t start after NVIDIA proprietary drivers are installed. At least installation itself was successful, it seems. I followed your instructions with one exception- disabled sddm before installing the driver. Maybe that was the crucial mistake.

ERROR: An error occured while performing the step: ""Building modules"... jada jada jada... No I think Open suse is not underrated after all. After two days of trying just to install the thing I ran in to three separate problems. It gave me a black screen after the first boot up and there was no forum on earth which could solve the problem. I thought it was the old Nvidia drivers but... who cares... I give up! There are much less primitive distros out there!
