can i use regular 1/4 wide staplers driven by my hitachi pneumatic stapler gun? what is downside of that stapler vs standard carpet stapler?
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 3 жыл бұрын
The difference is the carpet gun shoot very narrow staples. I would think you'll be ok as long as you get down in the carpet. Just setting it on the surface can create little dimples. Just watch for that and you should be good. I've had to use that method in a pinch. Thanks for the question. Hope that helps

My first time installing a transition--from luxury vinyl to tile--and I didn't even know how to get the vinyl transition piece into the metal track! I was trying to push it in instead of knocking it in with a rubber mallet. The rubber mallet worked like a charm. Thanks for the great info, especially for us beginners!

excuse my amateur question, but why would I put a tack strip in a direct walking path? will the tacks be felt underneath, especially if one were walking barefoot? how much of a gap do/did you have btwn the u-channel and the flooring? btwn the tack strip? Can this be done w/o a tack strip by stapling the edge of the carpet right up to the edge of the u-channel and have the t-molding/carpet finisher cover the carpet for that 1/2 inch (no foam underneath)? The paper instructions seem to be missing 50% of what is actually needed to do it correctly; possibly more...
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 3 жыл бұрын
Wow. Ok so this might be long but I'll try to make it short. So 1st the tack strip across the door it pretty common. Once you kick the carpet over and it gas a good grab you can pound them down. Also if you cut the pad back a little and fold the carpet over and staple it, you can butt your reducer right up to the folded carpet. It will have the same look. Another way to do it is to kick the carpet over the tack strip and then use a t mold. You can lip it up over the carpet and tack strip. It looks pretty clean. As far as a gap I usually leave a 1/4 inch on the laminate side of the u channel and about 1/4 inch from the tack strip. Thar can change depending on how thick the carpet you are tucking is. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question

@@YOUFLOOR ...thanks. put in my first 320 sqft and learned a lot, but have met my next nemesis, the t-molding/transition strip (and carpet). Mine came in 4 pieces (T, Carpet, Tile reducer, other bits). Currently gluing T and Carpet reducer. Apparently previous owners did it wrong at a carpet-laminate junction, oh well. Again, learned a lot, but still have a lot to learn. Cheers.

If you put the cap/top trim on last then you wouldn’t need to tuck it in, just kick and trim carpet then install cap over top.
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 4 жыл бұрын
When you say cap, do you mean transition? I do it both ways. Just depends on the situation. If the carpet is real thick it wont let me grab the u channel. Thanks for the tip. I'll try it out on The next one

I've been looking ALL over for this! Thank you!! Every time that I cut my metal U strip it bends. Now I know to get a Tin Snip (was using a multi-tool). I have been trying to install the metal u strips on concrete. What are you using? A Drill Driver or impact driver? I've burnt out so many drill bits (supposedly for concrete) and nothing works. Can I glue the metal strip down? I'm laying Luxury Plank vinyl btw.
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 3 жыл бұрын
I am probably using an impact driver. I have recently started using my reg. drill on low speed. It helps to not strip the screws. For transitions on concrete with no screws, check out this video. Thanks for the questions. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d32Uf3WcoNiqjNE

Hey I am going to be lying laminate over my existing tile which is going to raise my floor up a little higher than normal as well as the doorway transition the people at home depot say I should remove the tile floor however my budget does not allow for that so my question is how high should the transition from one floor to another be before and is there anything that can be used for higher than normal doorway transitions before they start to look awkward
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah there is no specific height. I plan on doing a video from laminate to tile soon. A couple thing to keep in mind. If this is is a bathroom first of all I wouldn't use a laminate. Maybe an lvp product would be better. And you may have to put an extension on the toilet ring area. But in the kitchen if you go to high you could trap your dishwasher if you can't get the feet on the new floor. And sometimes raising the floor that high won't allow your FRIG to fit under cabinets. Also if you dont remove baseboards they could shrink down to almost nothing. When dropping from one height to another you have to cut a half inch wide piece of the laminate you're using and nail it in the gap between the tile and laminate. still allowing a 1/4 expansion gap on laminate side. Then screw the u channel down on top that. If you try to put the u channel on the floor it will be too low to catch the transition. If it is still to high they do sell tall wood transitions that you screw down. They are for tall drops. If you would like to send a pic. Ill take a look at it an see if I can figure it out. Hit me up at zconstructionllc@gmail.com or dm me on Instagram @zconstructionllc. Thanks for the question hope that helped

You could have removed the tile using a Bosch jackhammer, then used a 4 1/2" angle grinder hooked up to a shopvac to remove the thinset. I did this on 750 sqft. of tile. Home Depot wouldn't let me rent their grinding wheel, so I used the little bitty angle grinder. It took me about a month to remove the thinset.

This great for two level transitional floors but old houses need pre leveling of one floor which many times results in a transition being higher on one side than the other, your method would not work in that situation!

Ok. Always put your reducer down first then the tack strip. Leave tack finger tip away from reducer then kick carpet. After kicking carpet run hammer along the tack straight down forcing it against the front of reducer. If u have an awl then run your awl pushing down towards floor and front reducer u will make a line. Just above the line cur the carpet. Then after carpet is cut run the awl tucking carpet in. Nice finished look.

I'm love your videos. so I'm doing carpet to LVT. I like the clean line of the z bar but will probably go old school with a metal carpet trim (not the gripper). So do I use a tack strip with these? If no then that means the trim and nails are the only thing holding down the carpet, correct? I have a guy in a wheelchair and can't figure out the bests method to make it easy on him to crossover and also not destroy the carpet. the carpet gripper trim is thin & gives a sharp hard bump to cross in a wheelchair. the padding doesn't help either but that's life. so I'm thinking the wider carpet trim may help but won't it eventually just wiggle out from under the trim with out tack strip? Did I miss a video on this? I also thought rubber trim may be a better choice but I've can't wrap my head around how it secures the carpet either. Should I just go with the gripper for peace of mind and listen to him bit** about this speed bump to the bathroom?
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR Жыл бұрын
If you pull the carpet tight and then staple it down. You can place the flat metal strip over the seam. If that doesn't work, then you may have to use a gripper. If you wanna send pics, I'll take a quick look and see if we can come up with something different. Thanks for the question. Youfloor.net@gmail.com
