Hey man, you helped me the other day with a few pointers on putting on a new ground drive belt on a Craftsman LT1000....and related brake issues..... one more problem to run by you and then I'm giving up after this.... Totally disassembled the break and corrected all the issues...the break is functioning perfectly.... the brake linkage adjustment is perfect fully functional...it freely rolls when brake is off & gear shifter in neutral....all the pullys are freewheeling and free running.... the gear shifter needed an adjustment to get it to go in neutral correctly & that has been adjusted and fixed ....(mower deck is off the mower)... Today, I crank the mower, easily put it in gear ..let my foot off brake...and it instantly smokes the belt..... when the mower is on jacks the rear two wheels roll freely & there's no noise in the transmission at all (it appears to be a sealed transmission no way to add fluid or service it)....so if it's not the brake and not the gear shifter being out of whack then what else could it possibly be???

Take the mower off the jackstands and see if you can push it in neutral with the parking brake off. I know you said that up on jackstands both wheels will roll freely, but they’re not in sync with each other when they’re in the air so you need to put the machine on the ground to see if the break is actually still locking up. It’s the only thing I can think of without looking at your machine and I know you said that you repaired the brakes. Just make sure that they’re in the off position and then push the mower to see if it rolls in neutral again without seeing the machine, I can’t tell you what is going on, but it’s still sounds like your brakes are locking up. That’s all I got for you. What state do you live in?

@JohnsonsSmallEngines thanks for your reply. Brakes function correctly. I've discovered that it now will not shift into neutral.... and it was going into neutral earlier today...thus allowing it to ""freewheel"" after brake issues were addressed. ... Anyway, I'm done with it.... 3 weeks and countless hours wasted.... misc parts aside lol

A short belt sounds like a great idea to keep it on the transmission and the engine pulley

@@JohnsonsSmallEngines thing is there is a parts list of the replacement parts that you need the.list is on the inside of the hood .I always go to it for the part number of the parts that I need

Only on certain models and there part numbers are not always correct. I always use the model number from the machine and look up parts on a part diagram for the specific model.

Would be nice if you indicated part numbers for the belts. Great video.

I just help with the "How To Videos" I do not want to be responsible for someone getting the incorrect belt. You must use your model number from under the seat and look up the correct part on a parts lookup to make sure you are getting the correct belt.

My drive belt came off my 46 inch craftsman. I now have an expensive lawn ornament. Manual says don't try to replace the belt yourself. Thinking of buying a condo.
